Review: Baking Day with Anna Olson

When a recipe book has a fantastic flow and is easy to navigate, I am in love. This book contains a multitude of images, as well as a guide at the beginning that explains the various icons that are used in the book. You can quickly find the level of difficulty of any recipe and whether it is vegan or gluten free. The pièce de résistance, however, is the entire section at the start of the book that has images to go along with each recipe and how long it should take to create them.

❀ The contents are as follows:

  • Introduction
  • Guide to Recipe Icons
  • Recipes at a Glance
  • Baking Day Tools and Equipment
  • Early Risers: Breakfast Pancakes, Waffles, and Eggs
  • Sugar and Spice: Sweet Breads
  • Breaking Bread: Savoury Breads
  • Snack Time: Biscuits, Crackers, and Dips
  • All Things: Chocolate, Vanilla, Toffee, Marshmallow, and Ginger
  • Tea Time Treats: Cookie Bars, Muffins, and Loaf Cakes
  • Party On: Celebration Cakes
  • Easy As…: Pies, Tarts, and Cheesecakes
  • Chilled Out: Frozen Desserts and Treats
  • P.S….:Pet Treats

❀ Informative and Down-to-Earth

For some reason, a tools and equipment list is something I have come to really appreciate at the start of a cookbook, and this one is really extensive. Anna Olson has always had an informative and down-to-earth approach, so I am not surprised at the detail in this book. If you have enjoyed her other books, then this is one to add to your shelf as well.

❀ Fun and Exciting for Kids

Baking Day with Anna Olson has so much to love, including the fact that it is useful for any skill level. Also, if you enjoy baking with kids, there are a lot of fun and exciting recipes to try, including cupcake tops and pet treats. I have been wanting to try quite a few of these recipes and I look forward to making some of the tea time treats. It is a perfect gift for any baker on your gift giving list this year!

Oooh, this does sound nice. For gifts esp gift baskets, and also for me. I used to get cookbooks from the library, but have been trying to use recipes online, but I don’t like that much, I’d prefer to have some of my own and I love baking, can sure can do better.
