My Mechanical Romance by Alexene Farol Follmuth is the robot-building YA romance novel I have been waiting for. Spotlighting women in STEM, I loved the main character’s transformation throughout the book as she begins to view herself as having a place on the team and in the field, and her experiences are realistic. The author also draws attention to the difficulties women face in these male-dominated spaces, which provides great balance to the romance at the story’s centre.
