❀ Eclectic Cast of Characters
The carefully crafted characters in Paper Towns, albeit the typical characters found in Green’s novels, are both relatable and believable. The protagonist, Quentin (Q), is your average geek who becomes completely obsessed in finding his childhood friend who has disappeared. With the help of his friends, an eclectic cast of characters, and the trail of clues left by the elusive Margo Roth Spiegelman, Q transforms into a selfless hero.
❀ Lots of Themes and Metaphors
While listening to this well written narrative, there are so many connections that can be made. John Green has created quite a few metaphors and well chosen symbols used to represent the underlying themes of this story. Throughout this book, listeners will speculate how they perceive others and the meaning of friendship. There are also references to Whitman’s Song of Myself and Moby Dick by Herman Melville, which tie into this book so perfectly.
❀ Phenomenal Narration
Dan John Miller has phenomenally narrated John Green’s Paper Towns. His impressive vocal characterizations make this story enjoyable to listen to. Q’s friend, Radar, is my favourite of Miller’s vocal characterizations as his southern drawl adds to the character’s charisma. There are so many laugh out loud moments that are performed so well in this audio version.
