Two clans. Only one will survive.
The only life seventeen-year-old Kol knows is hunting at the foot of the Great Ice with his brothers. But food is becoming scarce, and without another clan to align with, Kol, his family, and their entire group are facing an uncertain future.
Traveling from the south, Mya and her family arrive at Kol’s camp with a trail of hurt and loss behind them, and hope for a new beginning. When Kol meets Mya, her strength, independence, and beauty instantly captivate him, igniting a desire for much more than survival.
Then on a hunt, Kol makes a grave mistake that jeopardizes the relationship that he and Mya have only just started to build. Mya was guarded to begin with—and for good reason—but no apology or gesture is enough for her to forgive him. Soon after, another clan arrives on their shores. And when Mya spots Lo, a daughter of this new clan, her anger intensifies, adding to the already simmering tension between families. After befriending Lo, Kol learns of a dark history between Lo and Mya that is rooted in the tangle of their pasts.
When violence erupts, Kol is forced to choose between fighting alongside Mya or trusting Lo’s claims. And when things quickly turn deadly, it becomes clear that this was a war that one of them had been planning all along.

Book Review: Ivory and Bone by Julie Eshbaugh
Ivory and Bone by Julie Eshbaugh is one of the most unique books I’ve read this year. This prehistoric book teaches the reader a lot about life during the ice age and contains a male main character who is very brave. The theme of family made me appreciate the book even more, and I would definitely recommend it.
❀ A Prehistoric Novel
Ivory and Bone is probably the only YA prehistoric novel I have ever read. Admittedly, it takes a bit of getting used to, but once you get into it, it is really incredible. I loved reading about the way the characters lived and how they had to hunt for their food and their clothes. I can’t imagine having to kill for my own survival, let alone in the freezing cold. I definitely admired the characters in the book for their strength.
❀ Amazing Main Character
Kol is such an amazing main character in the book! What I found really intriguing is the fact that Kol is a boy. Honestly, this isn’t too common in YA and it was really refreshing. Kol is strong and intelligent and actually makes his own honey, another characteristic that I really enjoyed. Main characters for me are the most important parts of the story, and I was very glad to be introduced to Kol.
❀ Theme of Family
❀ Epic Story
Ivory and Bone by Julie Eshbaugh is an epic prehistoric novel with a strong, male main character. I really enjoyed the theme of family over romance. I would consider Ivory and Bone to be a must-read, as it is so unlike anything I’ve ever read before.
