Audiobook Review: Cinder by Marissa Meyer
Cinder by Marissa Meyer is the perfect audiobook if you are looking for a way to tackle your TBR. Cinder is a fantastic retelling of the classic fairytale, Cinderella. The villain will put you under her spell while Rebecca Soler reenacts the book with superb finesse.
❀ A Cinderella Retelling
Cinder is one of the best retellings that I have ever listened to! It loosely follows the plot of Cinderella, but is set in the future where a deadly plague is going around. I love how the main character, Cinder, is not a human, but a cyborg who is rejected by society. With such a creative fantasy storyline, Marissa Meyer has created a classic of her own.
❀ An Incredible Villain
A Cinderella retelling wouldn’t be complete without an incredible villain. Queen Levana, queen of Luna, possesses powers that allow her to control minds. She is described as beautiful, but she is able to trick humans into seeing her as pretty. Queen Levana’s character is so well developed that the listener will be able to feel a real hatred towards her.
❀ Captivating Narration
In Cinder, there are androids that assist the citizens of New Beijing, where the story takes place. Rebecca Soler has captured the voice of those robots so perfectly that it makes the story so believable! I really enjoyed how she uses so much expression to really help the listener understand the events in the book. I find it hard to stick with an audiobook that does not have a captivating narrator. Soler has one of those unique abilities to take a fantastic story and bring it to life.
❀ A Unique Spin
Cinder by Marissa Meyer audiobook is incredible. The book and narration are perfectly matched. Listeners will be left in awe at this unique spin on an old love story. It is a great action story that I highly recommend.
I have not read Cinder yet, even though it is one of the top books on my TBR. The entire series is. I have never listened to an audiobook before, but maybe this one should be my first. It sounds like the narrator is a dang good one, and maybe the perfect start to an audiobook affair!
