The Suspect by Fiona Barton is one of the best thrillers I have read in a while. This story is both believable and terrifying. The flawed characters are interesting and will have you flipping pages until you reach the shocking conclusion.

Journalist Kate Waters always does everything she can to be first to the story, first with the exclusive, first to discover the truth--and this time is no exception. But she can't help thinking of her own son, whom she hasn't seen in two years, when he left home to travel.
As the case of the missing girls unfolds, they will all find that even when it seems far away, danger can lie closer to home than one might think...

Review: The Suspect by Fiona Barton
The book is one that asks the question of how far do we go for the people we care about? Do we really know our friends and family as well as we think? When the girls, Alex and Rosie, disappear in Thailand, their parents are frantic to do what it takes to find them. As the details slowly unfold, the parents learn details about their daughters that they are surprised to discover.
❀ An Intriguing Read
I have read one other Fiona Barton thriller, The Child, which is another page-turner. The investigative team from this novel are old favourites that reappear in The Suspect. I find Kate Waters, the journalist, to be such a fantastic character. She is an amazing journalist and has her own set of flaws. While there is no need to have read the previous novels to have an understanding of the story, The Suspect places Kate in a very interesting position. This time she is on the receiving end of the investigation, which makes for an intriguing read.
❀ Multiple Perspectives
The Suspect is told in multiple perspectives of one of the mothers, Alex, Kate, and the detective. It will really keep you guessing and the surprising twist at the end will shock you. Also, the journalistic aspects of the book are quite detailed and interesting to read about. It is apparent that Barton’s first hand experiences as a journalist have helped to shape her writing.
❀ Hard to set down
The Suspect by Fiona Barton is a book that is hard to set down as it is packed full of engaging characters and a juicy plot. I am definitely adding Barton to my list of auto-buy authors. If you enjoy thrillers, you won’t be disappointed by it.
I don’t read thrillers very often, but I love an emotional one with good twists, so this sounds perfect! Great review!

I am normally not a “time of year” type of book, but with all of the rain/snow, and cold rainy days, this sounds perfect. I haven’t heard about this author before, but I plan to go check her out right now!
