Series Review: The Lunar Chronicles

The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer is a series that is so original with its take on fairytales in space, and I loved each of the main characters. The story also has a great ending, leaving it among my favourite books. If you have yet to read this series and are a fan of fairytales, badassery, and space, I would definitely recommend it!

Summary (from Goodreads):

The #1 New York Times-bestselling series that brought fans a complex and thrilling world of cyborgs and evil queens, available together for the first time in one beautiful boxed set

Once upon a time, in the future . . . .

The Lunar Chronicles are futuristic retellings of classic fairy tales. In Cinder, a teenage cyborg (half human, half machine) must deal with a wicked stepmother, start a rebellion against the evil Queen Levana, and decide how she feels about a handsome prince. As the series continues, Cinder forges alliances with Scarlet, a spaceship pilot who is determined to solve the mystery of a missing loved one with the help of a magnetic street fighter named Wolf; Cress, a computer hacker who is imprisoned by Queen Levana; and Winter, a princess who's in love with a commoner, and who discovers that Cinder, Scarlet, and Cress may hold the key to saving her kingdom and the world.

Follow Marissa Meyer's The Lunar Chronicles from the beginning with Cinder, Scarlet, Cress, Fairest: Levana’s Story, Stars Above (a collection of stories set in the Lunar Chronicles universe), and the epic conclusion, Winter.

Series Review: The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer

This series is unlike anything I have read before. Basically, it takes classic fairytales and gives them an intergalactic makeover featuring a manipulative villain. I loved reading about cyborgs, androids, and all the technology in the futuristic world, and the series is filled with plot twists. Normally, when I binge a series, I get bored with the plot about halfway, but each instalment in this series introduces a new protagonist, and the story stays fresh. There are a lot of plot lines throughout the books, but they are all woven together, so I didn’t find them confusing. The Lunar Chronicles has got to be one of my new favourite series, and I regret not reading it earlier.

❀ Strong Female Leads

One of my favourite aspects of the series is the strong female leads. Each princess has a distinct voice and her own quirks, which can be pretty hard to pull off when there are so many main characters. I enjoyed how the princesses aren’t looking for princes to save them, and certain plot lines actually work the other way around. Cinder was probably my favourite character since she is so fearless, but I didn’t find any of the protagonists to be dislikable.

❀ Ties-up Nicely

I also appreciated how every aspect of the story ties up neatly. Each character’s backstory is developed, and there are no plot holes by the end of the series. I found that the short story collection really helped with this, since it delves into the lives of the side characters to answer any outstanding questions. There is nothing worse than being invested in a long series only to have the ending ruined, so I was glad to see a satisfactory conclusion to this one.

❀ An Action Packed Series

The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyeis an action packed series filled with twists. There are many main characters, all of whom are enjoyable, and the series is worth reading until the very end. After reading this, I would love to see even more creative fairytale adaptations out there.

I don’t have a clue why, but I still haven’t read any of these. And I have been told on numerous occasions that I am nuts for it! I do need to check it out, since it sounds good to me.

Omg this is one of my favorite series ❤️ One minor correction: maybe change princesses into protagonists. Covers all the girls better and is no spoiler 🙂

I’m SO glad you loved this series! I still haven’t read Winter–I attempted 3 times to read it, but I never felt fully in the mood for it, so I put it off all those 3 times. 🙁 But it’s still a fantastic series! I think my favorite heroine’s Scarlet, and my favorite hero’s hands down Thorne. Although I did like Jacin a lot based on the few chapters I’ve read of Winter!
