The Girl From Everywhere by Heidi Heilig is not your typical time travel book. This novel incorporates maps into the time travel theme and is set in the lush, historical Hawaii. Despite the fact that I loved most of the elements in this book, the pacing was too slow for me to fully enjoy the novel.

It was the kind of August day that hinted at monsoons, and the year was 1774, though not for very much longer.Sixteen-year-old Nix Song is a time-traveller. She, her father and their crew of time refugees travel the world aboard The Temptation, a glorious pirate ship stuffed with treasures both typical and mythical. Old maps allow Nix and her father to navigate not just to distant lands, but distant times - although a map will only take you somewhere once. And Nix's father is only interested in one time, and one place: Honolulu 1868. A time before Nix was born, and her mother was alive. Something that puts Nix's existence rather dangerously in question...Nix has grown used to her father's obsession, but only because she's convinced it can't work. But then a map falls into her father's lap that changes everything. And when Nix refuses to help, her father threatens to maroon Kashmir, her only friend (and perhaps, only love) in a time where Nix will never be able to find him. And if Nix has learned one thing, it's that losing the person you love is a torment that no one can withstand. Nix must work out what she wants, who she is, and where she really belongs before time runs out on her forever.

Review: The Girl From Everywhere by Heidi Heilig
❀ Creative Way to Time Travel
The Girl From Everywhere is a time travel book that is unlike the others in its genre. In this book, the characters travel through time using maps. The way that this concept is described is very believable and creative. The characters basically sail to their destination, picturing where they want to go and they are transported there. However, in the eARC version, the maps aren’t available, which was pretty disappointing. I look forward to seeing the maps in the published version so that I can get a better feel for this book.
❀ Beautiful Setting
I adored the setting in The Girl From Everywhere! This book takes place in beautiful Hawaii, in the year 1868. The lush depictions that Heidi Heilig provides in the book will make all of its readers wishing to be whisked off to Hawaii. Heilig is a master of description and her ability to provide such amazing detail to her story is an asset to the book.
❀ Very Slow-Paced
Although I enjoyed so much about The Girl From Everywhere, I found that the plot was really lacking in places. It took me a while to read this book because many events just seemed to drag on. This was really disappointing because I had such high hopes for this book. I really enjoy following Heidi on social media and she is a kind, quirky person that can make you laugh out loud. However, this book needed to be a little more action-packed and faster paced for my taste.
❀ Unique Book
The Girl From Everywhere by Heidi Heilig is a unique time travel book set in Hawaii, which brings a different and interesting point of view to the genre. I enjoyed so much about this book, but found the plot to be a bit too slow-paced for me. However, if you are a fan of the time travel genre, do not hesitate to give this book a try!

I hope that you enjoy it! 🙂
It’s too bad the story is so slow because the premise sounds amazing! I wouldn’t mind visiting Hawaii right now even if it’s only in a book!
There is so much to love about the concept and the writing. I would have preferred something more fast paced, but you might enjoy it for the Hawaiian aspect! 🙂
Seem some people not really enjoying this book, when the plot is lacking the excitement, you definitely take a while to finish reading it! Fair enough review. 🙂
I sometimes enjoy time travel books and I love Hawaii.

I’m on the fence about this one. The slow pace and so-so plot really has me questioning f I wanna read it but then again there has been some positive things said about it too. I might give this a go.
I would love to hear your thoughts if you do read it! 🙂
Not too sure on this one… The time travel and historical aspects has me intrigued but the mixed reviews, lacking plot and slow pace has me on the fence.
It is definitely one that either really appeals to you or it doesn’t. If you are one who enjoys slower pacing, you might like this one! <3
Loved the review, not sure this book would be for me. I love reading reviews before buying a book.
I actually had to put this book down several times, and then ended up never going back to it. It just wasn’t catching my attention. The pacing was so slow, I found myself getting bored. I may have to try again one day, especially when I can see the maps, but for now I have so many other books calling my name!
I probably would have not gone back to finish it had this book not been one that I had highly anticipated this year. Totally agree with you there– so many more books to read!
I personally want to jump into reading more of the time traveling genre, since I don’t read much of it at all. This book is one of the books on my list to help start my reading of more time traveling! 😊
Great review!
There are quite a few time travel books this year! I hope that you find one that whisks you off your feet! 🙂
I hate slow paced plots! So, this book definitely wasn’t for me. Great Review btw! 😀
I borrowed this from the library and can’t wait to get to it despite your review(cuz you did say if I liked time-travel that I should give it a chance 😜). Thanks for being honest!
Fans of the genre will definitely enjoy it! I hope that you love it! 🙂
