Author Interview: Bethany C. Morrow
1. What authors’ blogs do you subscribe to? Is there one particular author that you find the most helpful in your own writing?
I have a long list, thank goodness for WordPress Reader and Bloglovin’! I find I really love to read blogs by creative non-fiction and personal essayists, though not exclusively. The most useful blogs tend to be ones that are collaborative because they offer so many different perspectives. When I’m writing, I’m sort of on my own, but it’s always fun in you’re in the middle of a revision, to read what others are saying about their revision process, for example. Martina Boone’s Adventures in YA Publishing, Operation Awesome, and YA Stands immediately come to mind.
2. When researching your upcoming novel, what has been the most interesting thing that you have discovered?
Hmm, trying to figure out how to answer this without spoiling anything! J I did love reading about binary planets (or planet and moon, or planet and star) because I was so in love with the concept of the twin worlds of Aetas and Infinitas, and the way they revolve around each other, almost romantically.
3. Do you have a favourite inspirational quote or piece of advice that has helped you as a writer?
I would say Toni Morrison’s ‘If there’s a book that you want to read, but it hasn’t been written yet, then you must write it.’ And Maya Angelou’s ‘There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.’
4. What book is currently sitting on your bedside table?
The two books I just bought last night: Saga written by Brian K. Vaughan and illustrated by Fiona Staples, and After The Quake, a collection of six short stories by Haruki Murakami.
