There's something strange and deadly loose in Philadelphia. . . .
Eleanor Fitt has a lot to worry about.
Her brother has gone missing, her family has fallen on hard times, and her mother is determined to marry her off to any rich young man who walks by. But this is nothing compared to what she's just read in the newspaper:
The Dead are rising in Philadelphia.
And then, in a frightening attack, a zombie delivers a letter to Eleanor . . . from her brother.
Whoever is controlling the Dead army has taken her brother as well. If Eleanor is going to find him, she'll have to venture into the lab of the notorious Spirit-Hunters, who protect the city from supernatural forces. But as Eleanor spends more time with the Spirit-Hunters, including the maddeningly stubborn yet handsome Daniel, the situation becomes dire. And now, not only is her reputation on the line, but her very life may hang in the balance.

Ooh! A read-along! How fun. I’ll keep tabs and try to join the next one.
This read-a-long is going on until January, so if you are interested, there is still time. 🙂
The seance scene was my fave too! And even though I’m not a big fan of zombies, I really liked how Sooz approached them in this – they focus was more on the beings that had some plan and drive instead of reanimated dead who just roam around.
I love that there are some frightening aspects! It makes me want to read this book even more than I did before! The only thing is, I hope that the zombies are different than the normal zombie. I have read a whole lot of zombie!
The zombies are different from your typical zombie book! I feel your zombie pain, though! This time of year always seems to be high on the zombie. 🙂
I just read your comment and went to my bookshelf to grab this one and get started! I am excited!
I liked the first book very much and I hope to get to read the rest!
I’m not a huge zombie fan which was why I put this book off for so long – much to my book buddy’s disgust! Once I read the book though I fell completely in love with it. Historical combined with badass female characters was a win – and the Dead weren’t bad at all!
Sounds like a book you can’t put down!
