Summary (from Goodreads):

Who says opposites don't attract?

It's been several years since Carly Vega's parents were deported. Carly lives with her older brother, studies hard, and works the graveyard shift at a convenience store to earn enough to bring her parents back from Mexico.

Arden Moss used to be the star quarterback at school. He used to date popular blondes and have fun pranking with his older sister. But now all that's changed, and Arden needs a new accomplice. Especially one his father, the town sheriff, will disapprove.

All Carly wants, at first, is to stay under the radar and do what her family expects. All Arden wants is to not do what his family expects. When their paths cross, they each realize they've been living according to the wishes of others. Carly and Arden's journey toward their true hearts - and one another-- is funny, romantic, and sometimes harsh. Just like real life.

Review: Joyride by Anna Banks

❀ A Diverse Read

Joyride is such a diverse book! The main character, Carly, is Mexican, which I don’t see very often. Anna Banks does such a fantastic job of describing what it’s like to deal with racism and poverty at the same time. This book discusses so many factors that can cause a person to live their life with difficulty, such as mental health disorders, the deportation of family members, etc.

❀ Inspirational

This book is one of the most inspirational books that I’ve read in a while. It has such a powerful message: to keep fighting for what you want. Despite the fact that Carly has to work two jobs to raise enough money to get her parents back to America, she doesn’t complain. I really admire this trait, because it keeps the story interesting. The reader will keep wondering if the money will be raised and if Carly should trust a stranger with such a large amount.

❀ Plot Twists

Joyride by Anna Banks is definitely going to shock readers everywhere with the various plot twists and growing drama. If you can’t wait for Joyride by Anna Banks, there is an excerpt up on Wattpad.

Grew up in a town called Niceville. No, seriously. And yes, everyone from Niceville is generally nice.

Let's see, things about me....My writer's cat is a mini wiener dog named Puckdoo. I can't walk in high heels, but I'm amazing at standing still in them. I'm the only person in Florida without a tan. I stole a car when I was 12 years old and drove across three state lines with it. Yeah. That's about it.

Whenever I read about Joyride I can’t help but to think about I’ll Meet You There! The stories are different of course, but there are minor similarities, so maybe I’ll love it as well. Nice short review, I’m so excited to pick this up 🙂

  2. Jaime Lynn says:

I love that the MC is Mexican! That is a huge positive in the books favor, already. I don’t read a ton of contemps, but this one sounds really good, and I can’t wait to check it out. Especially with the plot twists and turns!
