Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon is one of the best books I’ve read this year, and the only book I’ve read with a book blogging character. It has such an original concept and one of my favourite main characters at the moment. Included, are little sketches that Madeline draws that I adored and I’m sure every reader will as well.

My disease is as rare as it is famous. Basically, I’m allergic to the world. I don’t leave my house, have not left my house in seventeen years. The only people I ever see are my mom and my nurse, Carla.
But then one day, a moving truck arrives next door. I look out my window, and I see him. He’s tall, lean and wearing all black—black T-shirt, black jeans, black sneakers, and a black knit cap that covers his hair completely. He catches me looking and stares at me. I stare right back. His name is Olly.
Maybe we can’t predict the future, but we can predict some things. For example, I am certainly going to fall in love with Olly. It’s almost certainly going to be a disaster.

Review: Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon
❀ Unique Concept
Everything, Everything has such a unique and interesting concept. Madeline, the main character is allergic to the outside world (she has SCID) and never leaves her house. This becomes difficult for her when she falls in love with the boy across the street. I don’t know much about SCID, which made this book really interesting to read, but I found that the disease wasn’t explained to well, and I still don’t really know what it is. Besides that, I enjoyed everything about this book and would definitely read it again.
❀ Relatable Main Character
Madeline is a very relatable character to me. As a fellow book nerd, I understand re-reading a book a million times because you love it so much. Maddy also posts “spoiler book reviews” on Tumblr that are about a sentence long about classic books, which I found very entertaining to read. She also doesn’t complain about her disease too much. I never seem to enjoy books with whiny characters, so I’m really glad that Madeline is agreeable.
❀ Artwork is Interesting
One of my favourite things about Everything, Everything are the little drawings included. There are some that Madeline has drawn of the Hawaiian state fish, the humuhumunukunukuapua’a, some diagrams, and many random drawings that made me smile. I noticed in the back of the book that the drawings are done by Yoon’s husband, which I found really interesting. I would certainly love to have my husband work on a book with me!
❀ One-of-a-Kind
Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon has a one-of-a-kind concept, a book obsessed character, and the cutest drawings that are sure to delight the reader. This is such a beautiful debut that will melt everyone’s heart.

I’m not sure when I am going to get to read this one but I am going to add it to my TBR! I have heard so many brilliant things about it, and it really does seem like one of those diverse reads. The format of the book is not my usual kind but it will be an experiment on my part and I look forward to the little drawings!
