The Cerulean by Amy Ewing sounds like a really interesting new fantasy series. I really loved Ewing’s The Lone City series and I think that this will be amazing. Doesn’t the plot summary of The Cerulean leave you wondering what you just read? I have a feeling that Ewing is planning to take us on a wild ride. I am here for that “mysterious underbelly!” Continue reading

Sherwood by Meagan Spooner

Sherwood by Meagan Spooner is a retelling of Robin Hood that sounds like my new favourite girl power story. I am not too familiar with the story of Robin Hood, but the concept is one that I love. The fact that the main character in Sherwood is a female has me very excited. I look forward to finding out how Spooner spins this epic tale. Continue reading

Review: This Tiny Perfect World by Lauren Gibaldi

This Tiny Perfect World by Lauren Gibaldi is a relatable story set in a small town. I will read pretty much any book about acting and any book that is set at camp. This Tiny Perfect World has both. I really enjoyed the message of this story, and the main character is believable. If you enjoyed Lauren Gibaldi’s other books, her latest instalment will not let you down.

Summary (from Goodreads):

The Jewel means wealth. The Jewel means beauty. The Jewel means royalty. But for girls like Violet, the Jewel means servitude. Not just any kind of servitude. Violet, born and raised in the Marsh, has been trained as a surrogate for the royalty—because in the Jewel the only thing more important than opulence is offspring.

Purchased at the surrogacy auction by the Duchess of the Lake and greeted with a slap to the face, Violet (now known only as #197) quickly learns of the brutal truths that lie beneath the Jewel’s glittering facade: the cruelty, backstabbing, and hidden violence that have become the royal way of life.

Violet must accept the ugly realities of her existence... and try to stay alive. But then a forbidden romance erupts between Violet and a handsome gentleman hired as a companion to the Duchess’s petulant niece. Though his presence makes life in the Jewel a bit brighter, the consequences of their illicit relationship will cost them both more than they bargained for.

The Afterlife of Holly Chase by Cynthia Hand

The Afterlife of Holly Chase by Cynthia Hand

The Afterlife of Holly Chase by Cynthia Hand truly surprised me. This is an original story based on the classic A Christmas Carol where the main character works for a company trying to save Scrooges every year. I found the main character to be likeable, even though she is intended to be dislikable, and I loved reading about the secrets at Project Scrooge. This is such a festive book that will definitely get the reader in the Christmas spirit. Continue reading
