New York Times bestselling author Lauren Weisberger returns with a novel starring one of her favorite characters from The Devil Wears Prada—Emily Charlton, first assistant to Miranda Priestly, now a highly successful image consultant who’s just landed the client of a lifetime.
Welcome to Greenwich, CT, where the lawns and the women are perfectly manicured, the Tito’s and sodas are extra strong, and everyone has something to say about the infamous new neighbor.
Let’s be clear: Emily Charlton, Miranda Priestly’s ex-assistant, does not do the suburbs. She’s working in Hollywood as an image consultant to the stars, but recently, Emily’s lost a few clients. She’s hopeless with social media. The new guard is nipping at her heels. She needs a big opportunity, and she needs it now.
Karolina Hartwell is as A-list as they come. She’s the former face of L’Oreal. A mega-supermodel recognized the world over. And now, the gorgeous wife of the newly elected senator from New York, Graham, who also has his eye on the presidency. It’s all very Kennedy-esque, right down to the public philandering and Karolina’s arrest for a DUI—with a Suburban full of other people’s children.
Miriam is the link between them. Until recently she was a partner at one of Manhattan’s most prestigious law firms. But when Miriam moves to Greenwich and takes time off to spend with her children, she never could have predicted that being stay-at-home mom in an uber-wealthy town could have more pitfalls than a stressful legal career.
Emily, Karolina, and Miriam make an unlikely trio, but they desperately need each other. Together, they’ll navigate the social landmines of life in America’s favorite suburb on steroids, revealing the truths—and the lies—that simmer just below the glittering surface. With her signature biting style, Lauren Weisberger offers a dazzling look into another sexy, over-the-top world, where nothing is as it appears.

When Life Gives You Lululemons by Lauren Weisberger
Admittedly, I have not read the other books in the series, but I have always heard such wonderful things. This novel is one that can be read without any prior knowledge of the characters or the other stories. There are so many funny situations that these women find themselves in that it makes for a very light and fluffy read. It has a Desperate Housewives feel to it, as the three women navigate getting older and still feel as though they are relevant in society.
❀ Emily is Hilarious
I found that it was easy to figure out Emily’s character right from the beginning, as she is such a sarcastic and quick-witted woman. She is so interesting, however, Emily is feeling as though she is passé. Also, it doesn’t help that she is being phased out by another up and coming celebrity assistant. Emily is just so head-strong. You can tell right away she will create a plan for herself to stay on top. Her approach is just so hilarious and I loved reading her point of view.
❀ Multiple Perspectives
Told from the perspectives of Emily, Miriam, and Karolina, the readers get a real sense of all the sides of the story. These women support one another throughout the course of the novel, which is really uplifting. It is a wonderful change to read about women who are empowering and supportive.
❀ Perfect for fans of the series
When Life Gives You Lululemons by Lauren Weisberger will definitely satisfy fans of her The Devil Wears Prada series. There is no shortage of humour and wonderfully strong female characters in this book. I am definitely excited to read the rest of the series now.
I’ve seen When Life Gives You Lululemons around on some other blogs before and all reactions have been pretty possitive!

The title caught my eye right away. 😉
I had no idea this was a book series. I enjoyed the movie, a long time ago. But I am not sure that it would translate into bookish form for me well
The movie is something that I really need to get to. I need to understand who Miranda is a bit better. 😉
This is on my TBR list and I can’t wait to read it.
I hope that you enjoy it as much as I did! 🙂
I love that this has a Desperate Housewives vibe to it. I still need to read the second book in the series but I have a feeling that both that book and this one will end up on my summer reading list. Great review!
I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on it! 🙂
I could use a book with some laughs. Thanks for the review.
I’ve seen this book around the Internet but didn’t realize it was in with TDWP series. I never read the books but liked the first movie. Might have to check it out!
