Summary (from Goodreads):

One devoted modern girl + a meddlesome, traditional grandmother = a heartwarming multicultural romantic comedy about finding love where you least expect it

Raina Anand may have finally given in to family pressure and agreed to let her grandmother play matchmaker, but that doesn't mean she has to like it--or that she has to play by the rules. Nani always took Raina's side when she tried to push past the traditional expectations of their tight-knit Indian-immigrant community, but now she's ambushing Raina with a list of suitable bachelors. Is it too much to ask for a little space? Besides, what Nani doesn't know won't hurt her...

As Raina's life spirals into a parade of Nani-approved bachelors and disastrous blind dates, she must find a way out of this modern-day arranged-marriage trap without shattering her beloved grandmother's dreams.

Review: The Matchmaker’s List by Sonya Lalli

❀ Big Family Theme

I love books that feature grandparents and families. Nani  is a classic busybody grandmother. She only wants what is best for her family and really is trying to help Rainia in the way that she feels is best. Raina really struggles with not wanting to upset her Nani and really goes through a process of growth as she tries to figure out her path in life.

❀ Lots of Humour

There is so much humour in The Matchmaker’s List by Sonya Lalli, and the dates that Raina goes on are at times quite hilarious.  I especially enjoyed her date at a vegan restaurant and her descriptions of the food. Also, there is no shortage of romance in the book as Raina interacts with quite a few suitors and an ex-boyfriend as well. Overall, it is a perfect spring contemporary to add to your TBR.

Guest Post: Sonya Lalli, The Matchmaker’s List

As The Matchmaker’s List is all about dating in Toronto, I asked Sonya Lalli what her ideal date night in Toronto would be. Here’s her fantastic response:

My ideal date night would on a warm, but not-too-hot summer evening when the city is buzzing. We would take the ferry over to Ward’s Island and walk along the beach. The sun sets so late in the summer so there would be plenty of time to go for a walk, have a drink by the water drink from a pre-packed bottle of prosecco. Later, back downtown, we’d grab dinner on a patio someplace like where Raina went with one of her dates, Jayesh, and have tacos, guacamole and chips and margaritas. Nowhere too expensive, but it would have good food and a nice vibe. There are so many outdoor festivals in the summer with street food, art or live music, so after dinner we’d find one of them and play the rest of the evening by ear.
