Snow Like Ashes by Sara Raasch has such a cool concept. I love how some of the kingdoms are the four seasons, but they dislike each other. The capitals of the kingdoms are named after months, like Jannuari. I also found interesting how the members of the different kingdoms have physical characteristics unique to their people. For example, the people of Winter have white hair and pale skin. I have never read anything like Snow Like Ashes.

Sixteen years ago the Kingdom of Winter was conquered and its citizens enslaved, leaving them without magic or a monarch. Now, the Winterians’ only hope for freedom is the eight survivors who managed to escape, and who have been waiting for the opportunity to steal back Winter’s magic and rebuild the kingdom ever since.
Orphaned as an infant during Winter’s defeat, Meira has lived her whole life as a refugee, raised by the Winterians’ general, Sir. Training to be a warrior—and desperately in love with her best friend, and future king, Mather — she would do anything to help her kingdom rise to power again.
So when scouts discover the location of the ancient locket that can restore Winter’s magic, Meira decides to go after it herself. Finally, she’s scaling towers, fighting enemy soldiers, and serving her kingdom just as she’s always dreamed she would. But the mission doesn’t go as planned, and Meira soon finds herself thrust into a world of evil magic and dangerous politics – and ultimately comes to realize that her destiny is not, never has been, her own.

Review: Snow Like Ashes by Sara Raasch
❀ Amazing Narrator
Meira is an amazing narrator and main character for the book. She is strong and believes in doing things for herself and not anyone else. I admire how she knows how to fight and can defend herself with ease. Meira is also quite sarcastic, which I love in a main character! She also knows how to throw a few tantrums. She is truly incredible, which makes the book extremely interesting.
❀ Action-Packed
Snow Like Ashes is so action-packed. It is filled with battles and quests to get back Winter’s power. The first scene even features a battle scene as the characters attempt to get a powerful locket half from the rival kingdom, Spring. There is constant combat that will keep the reader on the edge of their seat. This book is so fast-paced and a very quick read.
❀ Unique Story
Snow Like Ashes by Sara Raasch is such a unique fantasy story. I would recommend this book to everyone. It is a must-read. I’m disappointed that I put this book off for so long, but I’m glad I finally read it and I’m waiting patiently for book two!
I just recently finished Snow Like Ashes, too, and I really loved it! I also enjoyed your review. 🙂

Great review! I read this not too long ago and I really liked it as well. It is undoubtedly a very unique book and like you mentioned, I loved Meira’s sarcastic personality.
I’ve heard so many good things about this book, and I love the premise and cover. Your review is so helpful, too. I can’t believe I haven’t read it yet, actually!
This one sounds SO unique! and of course THAT COVER. I would honestly just buy the book for the cover if I hated it (which I’m sure I won’t because so many people have loved it). GAH need to get this one soon–I have the second book as an eGalley! Glad you enjoyed this one and love your review 😀

This book is like on the top of my list to buy once my book buying ban ends. I am fascinated by the concept of the season-nations.
Already saw good reviews of this book, but until now I’ve never considered reading it, so thank you.
