Book Beginnings is a book meme hosted by Rose City Reader where participants share the first sentence (or so) of the book, along with initial thoughts about the sentence, impressions of the book, or anything else the opener inspires.
The Friday 56 is hosted by Freda’s Voice, and the rules are quite simple: Grab a book, any book, and turn to page 56 or 56% in your e-reader. Find any non-spoilery sentence(s) and post.
This week’s book: Coming Up For Air by Miranda Kenneally

Author: Miranda Kenneally
Publisher: Sourcebooks Fire
Publication Date: July 4, 2017

Swim. Eat. Shower. School. Snack. Swim. Swim. Swim. Dinner. Homework. Bed. Repeat.
All of Maggie's focus and free time is spent swimming. She's not only striving to earn scholarships—she's training to qualify for the Olympics. It helps that her best friend, Levi, is also on the team, and cheers her on. But Levi's already earned an Olympic tryout, so Maggie feels even more pressure to succeed. And it's not until Maggie's away on a college visit that she realizes how much of the "typical" high school experience she's missed by being in the pool.
No one to shy away from a challenge, Maggie decides to squeeze the most out of her senior year. First up? Making out with a guy. And Levi could be the perfect candidate. After all, they already spend a lot of time together. But as Maggie slowly starts to uncover new feelings for Levi, how much is she willing to sacrifice in the water to win at love?

Thoughts
I am not too far into this one yet, but I have always enjoyed Miranda Kenneally’s books, so I have high hopes for this one. It is definitely a perfect book for summer with its pool/swimming theme. Summer and contemporaries go hand-in-hand, don’t you think?
Book Beginning:
Wake up at 4:15 a.m.
Swim
Eat Breakfast
Shower
Second Breakfast
School
Snack between classes
Lunch
More Class
Swim
Swim
Swim some more
Snack
Eat dinner
Homework
Sleep
Dream about swimming (and eating). When I’m not in the pool, I’m counting the minutes until I can dive back in, so most of the time my bushy, light-brown hair is wet and reeks of chlorine.
Friday 56:
I was pretty jealous when he talked to that other girl earlier, but if I tell him that, it could make things awkward between us, and that’s the last thing I need. I want us to stay normal.
I have read a few books by this author but not this one yet. I liked both snippets. My YA pick this week is from TBR mountain – Battle Magic by Tamora Pierce. Happy reading!
Wow, what a morning list! Thanks for sharing, and here’s mine: “YOU’LL NEVER KNOW, DEAR”
I know! I was so exhausted after just typing it out! 😉
I’m not sure I’d survive that morning list! Or getting up that early! I’ve yet to read anything by Miranda Kenneally but I’ve heard all kinds of raves about her books. I hope you continue to enjoy this one!
She is a favourite of mine, for sure! 🙂
Sounds like a fun read! Happy weekend!
Looks like a nice summer read 🙂 Have a great weekend!

I haven’t read anything by this author before, but this book sounds interesting.
From the opening, it’s easy to see how swimming is her life. This does sound like a good choice for the summer. I hope you love it! Thanks for sharing and have a great weekend.
I’m thinking normal is out the window. Especially if she feels she’s been missing out on thing. Sounds like a cute summer read.
My Friday 56 from The Nutting Girl
I was having the same thoughts! lol
Me getting up at 4:45 in the morning is about as likely as pigs suddenly taking flight. Just don’t see it happening! But I love Miranda Kenneally’s books, so I am willing to read about a character who IS a morning person!
That’s the beauty of books! Living vicariously through the characters. lol 🙂
Totally! Summer and contemporaries go hand in hand! Nice pick!
Here’s my Friday Reads
This sounds like a cute read. I’ll look forward to hear your thoughts on it. 🙂
Happy reading!
