If This Gets Out by Sophie Gonzales and Cale Dietrich is a compelling contemporary about the dark side of the music industry. Following a boy band on their tour through Europe, this one contains both uplifting and heartbreaking moments, as well as a romance that perseveres in the face of a controlling management team. Prom Kings by Tony Correia is a book that I was happy to stumble upon as I’ve never read an LGBT prom book before. This rom-com tells the story of a boy named Charlie who is working up the nerve to prompose to the new boy in the prom committee, however he begins to question who he truly likes as he ends up with two dates to the dance. Graceling (Graphic Novel) by Kristin Cashore is a fast-paced fantasy that lends itself well to the graphic novel format. Following characters with special abilities, this one contains a fair share of action and strong main characters. The artwork is also stunning, making the story come to life. This is a great introduction to the world of Graceling, which left me excited to pick up the original series. Continue reading
Harrow Lake by Kat Ellis is a gripping horror novel that is perfect for Halloween. While it is out of my comfort zone as a fan of contemporary, I enjoyed the suspenseful plot and unreliable narrator. The writing is also incredibly atmospheric, which made this a difficult book to put down. This is the perfect read for those looking for an immersive and memorable psychological thriller.
