Friday Reads: The Unhoneymooners

Welcome to this week’s edition of Friday Reads! Today I am sharing a few quotes from The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren. I have had this audiobook on my TBR for quite some time and I am really enjoying it so far.

Book Beginnings is a book meme hosted by Rose City Reader where participants share quotes (the first sentence, or so) of the book, along with initial thoughts about the sentence, impressions of the book, or anything else the opener inspires.

The Friday 56 is hosted by Freda’s Voice, and the rules are quite simple: Grab a book, any book, and turn to page 56 or 56% in your e-reader. Find any non-spoilery sentence(s) and post.

THIS WEEK’S BOOK:

The UnhoneymoonersTitle: The Unhoneymooners
Author: Christina Lauren
Publisher: Simon & Schuster Audio
Publication Date: May 14 2019

Summary (from Goodreads):

Olive is always unlucky: in her career, in love, in…well, everything. Her identical twin sister Ami, on the other hand, is probably the luckiest person in the world. Her meet-cute with her fiancé is something out of a romantic comedy (gag) and she’s managed to finance her entire wedding by winning a series of Internet contests (double gag). Worst of all, she’s forcing Olive to spend the day with her sworn enemy, Ethan, who just happens to be the best man.

Olive braces herself to get through 24 hours of wedding hell before she can return to her comfortable, unlucky life. But when the entire wedding party gets food poisoning from eating bad shellfish, the only people who aren’t affected are Olive and Ethan. And now there’s an all-expenses-paid honeymoon in Hawaii up for grabs.

Putting their mutual hatred aside for the sake of a free vacation, Olive and Ethan head for paradise, determined to avoid each other at all costs. But when Olive runs into her future boss, the little white lie she tells him is suddenly at risk to become a whole lot bigger. She and Ethan now have to pretend to be loving newlyweds, and her luck seems worse than ever. But the weird thing is that she doesn’t mind playing pretend. In fact, she feels kind of... lucky.

BOOK BEGINNING

FRIDAY 56

As I step out of the bathroom with rubber gloves pulled up to my elbows, my sister zombie-moans into an ice bucket. “You have to take my trip.”

“What trip?”

“The honeymoon.”

Thoughts

This is the first Christina Lauren book that I have tried and I can already tell that I am going to love it. The concept really lends itself to so much humour. Also, Olive and Ethan are such fun characters that really are perfect enemies.

Even though I think I know where this is going, it is such a great set up I’m all in. I’d love to have been a fly on the wall when the two authors were plotting this.

Omg I would hate for everyone at my wedding to have gotten sick over the food lol how sad. But also sad that she has to pretend to be a loving new bride. Smh get out of that relationship lol
