Meet Daisy Winters. She’s an offbeat sixteen-year-old Floridian with mermaid-red hair; a part time job at a bootleg Walmart, and a perfect older sister who’s nearly engaged to the Crown Prince of Scotland. Daisy has no desire to live in the spotlight, but relentless tabloid attention forces her to join Ellie at the relative seclusion of the castle across the pond.
While the dashing young Miles has been appointed to teach Daisy the ropes of being regal, the prince’s roguish younger brother kicks up scandal wherever he goes, and tries his best to take Daisy along for the ride. The crown–and the intriguing Miles–might be trying to make Daisy into a lady . . . but Daisy may just rewrite the royal rulebook to suit herself.

Review: Royals by Rachel Hawkins
Royals by Rachel Hawkins is a book about an American girl who ends up following her sister to Scotland after becoming royalty. The main character is snarky and the side characters make the story so much fun. This is a light read perfect for anyone looking for a fluffy contemporary.
Set in Scotland
This book tells the story of a girl whose sister gets engaged to the prince of Scotland. Fearful that Daisy might cause an international scandal in America, the royal advisors ship her off to Scotland to join her sister. In Scotland, Daisy must learn the rules of being royal and how to behave overseas. I loved the Scottish setting, especially since I have read so few books set there. The posh activities like horse racing intrigued me and created an interesting juxtaposition to Daisy’s carefree personality. I also loved the tabloid articles, since they offer an interesting outside perspective on the story.
Sassy Main Character
Daisy is such a sassy main character. The transition from working at Walmart to hanging out in a castle is a hard one for her, and she handles it with snark. Daisy has a lot of weight on her shoulders since she has to protect not only her image but the image of the entire royal family. However, she has no filter which leads to many awkward encounters. I love a sarcastic main character, and Daisy definitely fit this criteria.
Hilarious Side Characters
There is a hilarious cast of side characters in the book, which was so fun to read. The group has earned the name The Royal Wreckers, and you can imagine the kind of shenanigans they pull. Getting some action from characters like the prince’s rambunctious brother lightens the mood, and there is even a fake dating relationship going on. Overall, the side character make the story that much more entertaining.
Royals by Rachel Hawkins is an amusing story about an American girl who gets sent to Scotland to learn how to act like royalty. I loved the main character and the group of wild side characters. This book is the perfect pick-me-up that is bound you laugh.
