A Dress for the Wicked by Autumn Krause is a book that I had been highly anticipating for its blend of fashion and competition. The premise is intriguing, however this one let me down. Don’t Call the Wolf by Aleksandra Ross is an intriguing dragon-themed fantasy that sounds amazing. When I read for fans of Leigh Bardugo in the synopsis, I became immediately intrigued. With the Fire on High by Elizabeth Acevedo is a touching story about following your passion and cooking. The main character is mature, and the subject of teen motherhood is handled in a way that is sensible, while it is not really in the spotlight of the story. Together at Midnight by Jennifer Castle is so touching as it tells the story of two people doing random acts of kindness at New Year’s. I enjoyed the main characters and their complexity, and the short chapters from the people they help add depth to the story. Fans of books like Dash and Lily’s Book of Dares will love this influential story. Continue reading
