Welcome to this week’s edition of Wishlist Wednesday! Today I am featuring A Deadly Education by Naomi Novik. I am really excited about this new YA fantasy series releasing this fall.
Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Wishful Endings to spotlight and discuss the books we’re excited about and have yet to read. It is a spin-off of the original meme, Waiting on Wednesday, that was formerly hosted by Breaking the Spine.
THIS WEEK’S WOW: A Deadly Education

Author: Naomi Novik
Publisher: Del Rey
Publication Date: September 29, 2020

From the New York Times bestselling author of Uprooted and Spinning Silver comes the story of an unwilling dark sorceress who is destined to rewrite the rules of magic.
I decided that Orion Lake needed to die after the second time he saved my life.
Everyone loves Orion Lake. Everyone else, that is. Far as I’m concerned, he can keep his flashy combat magic to himself. I’m not joining his pack of adoring fans.
I don’t need help surviving the Scholomance, even if they do. Forget the hordes of monsters and cursed artifacts, I’m probably the most dangerous thing in the place. Just give me a chance and I’ll level mountains and kill untold millions, make myself the dark queen of the world.
At least, that’s what the world expects me to do. Most of the other students in here would be delighted if Orion killed me like one more evil thing that’s crawled out of the drains. Sometimes I think they want me to turn into the evil witch they assume I am. The school itself certainly does.
But the Scholomance isn’t getting what it wants from me. And neither is Orion Lake. I may not be anyone’s idea of the shining hero, but I’m going to make it out of this place alive, and I’m not going to slaughter thousands to do it, either.
Although I’m giving serious consideration to just one.
With flawless mastery, Naomi Novik creates a heroine for the ages—a character so sharply realized and so richly nuanced that she will live on in hearts and minds for generations to come.

Thoughts
There is so much about this book that has my interest piqued. The fact that it is being hailed as a feminist Harry Potter and it has dark magic makes this one of my highly anticipated books of the year. I haven’t read the author’s previous works, but I have heard great things. Definitely one that I can’t wait for!
I’m convulsed with jealousy! Such an ugly emotion… I’ve requested this on NG to no avail:((. And I LOVE her books! I hope you enjoy this one – yes… really I do.
Ooooh! I had no idea that it was up on NG! I will have to try my luck as well. 🙂
The synopsis sure sounds good. I’m curious now!

“I decided that Orion Lake needed to die after the second time he saved my life.” Wow, the first sentence of the summary is already thrilling and I have the question “why”. The rest of the summary sounds like this heroine could be a female Harry Potter, indeed. And I am already hooked! Thank you for bringing this to my attention. Happy reading and stay safe and well.
