f It Makes You Happy by Claire Kann is a perfect book for those who are fans of Sandhya Menon and Julie Murphy. Any book about diners and cooking competitions is an instant win for me, so I was very excited when I learned about If It Makes You Happy by Claire Kann. The book is not just about the diner, however, as it touches on serious topics as the main character is crowned the summer queen. I enjoyed the influential message the novel has to offer along with the main character who is unapologetically herself. This is a quietly powerful read that I would definitely recommend. With the Fire on High by Elizabeth Acevedo
With the Fire on High by Elizabeth Acevedo is a touching story about following your passion and cooking. The main character is mature, and the subject of teen motherhood is handled in a way that is sensible, while it is not really in the spotlight of the story. Ultimately, I found this book original and very readable. Continue reading
Mera: Tidebreaker by Danielle Paige
Mera: Tidebreaker by Danielle Paige is a YA graphic novel, which I don’t typically read, but I am loving the concept. The fact that it is all about the origins of Mera and Aquaman has really got me excited to give it a try. I have always loved Danielle Paige’s writing. She just seems to be able to perfect a great retelling, and her Dorothy Must Die series is one of my all-time favourites. I love the the fact this book explores Atlantis and I can’t wait to see what Paige has come up with. Continue reading
The Beauty That Remains by Ashley Woodfolk
The Beauty That Remains by Ashley Woodfolk combines grief and music to create a poignant read. There are three different stories that all connect, and there is so much diversity in the book. While I liked all of the characters, Shay was my favourite, and her story touched me the most. Continue reading
Let’s Talk About Love by Claire Kann
Let’s Talk About Love by Claire Kann is a book that follows an asexual main character and has a good balance of humour and serious events. It is honestly a shame that I have never seen a book out there like this one. I would say that this is both an excellent resource and an excellent story, perfect for those wanting to know more about asexuality. Continue reading
