Spin the Dawn by Elizabeth Lim intrigued me from my first glimpse as I love Project Runway as well as anything Mulan inspired. This story of a sewing competition is thrilling to read as the main character competes under a fraudulent identity, and I enjoyed her passion and the care she provides for her family. What I didn’t love was the rest of the book after the competition is over, as the story changes dramatically after only a third of the way through. I must say I was disappointed in this one since I had such high hopes for it. Continue reading

Book Review: Nocturna by Maya Motayne
Nocturna by Maya Motayne is a novel I had been highly anticipating since I first heard of its release, and I am happy to say it lived up to my expectations. I love the idea of a prince and a thief who steals faces so unique, and the main characters are well-developed. I also enjoyed the execution of the magic system and the originality of each person’s abilities. Nocturna is a book that is entertaining and compelling, and I would recommend it to fans of the fantasy genre. Continue reading

When Irish Guys Are Smiling by Suzanne Supplee is an entertaining read about travel, friendship, and self-discovery. The main character is realistic, and the setting is described beautifully. The Steel Prince by V.E.Schwab is an enthralling graphic novel that is the prequel to the Shades of Magic series. It is a bit out of my comfort zone, but I found myself enjoying the unique, action-packed plot and the gorgeous artwork.
