League of Liars by Astrid Scholte is a unique mystery that combines magic with murder trials. I found the genre-blending premise original, and I enjoyed the mix of narrators, both inside and outside of the prison. While the content of this book didn’t meet all of my expectations, I still enjoyed the story as a whole. This is a great read for those looking for the tension of legal drama with a touch of fantasy. The Kingdom of Back by Marie Lu
The Kingdom of Back by Marie Lu combines music with magic as it follows Nannerl Mozart, the sister of the more commonly known Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect going into this one, but I found myself touched by Nannerl’s longing to be remembered in a society that forbids women from composing. Frankly in Love by David Yoon
Frankly in Love by David Yoon is a book I had been highly anticipating as I have seen it hyped up everywhere. Unfortunately, much of the book is stereotypical and underdeveloped, and there is no plot, just drama. I found that the main character is difficult to support, and many events are just tossed into the plot needlessly. Honestly, I am disappointed in this one. Continue reading
Four Dead Queens by Astrid Scholte
Four Dead Queens by Astrid Scholte is the kind of unputdownable book I had been waiting to review. This fantasy-thriller fusion is enthralling, and the plot is unpredictable. I especially enjoyed the multiple narrations and the extensive setting. If you are looking for an exciting read, I would suggest picking this one up. Continue reading
The Beautiful by Renée Ahdieh
The Beautiful by Renée Ahdieh is a new series that is all about vampires. Anything that Renée Ahdieh writes is gold as far as I am concerned. I am not one to read a lot of historical fiction, but this just sounds too good to pass up. I think it is going to be a perfect fall read. (Did I just say fall?!) Continue reading
