Escaping from Houdini by Kerri Maniscalco is a spooky story I have been meaning to read for a while now. The concept of this third instalment in the Stalking Jack the Ripper series feels fresh, and I really enjoyed the setting. However, I found it more difficult to connect with the main character, and I wasn’t a fan of all the drama in the book. One Way or Another by Kara McDowell is a Christmas book about destiny and self-acceptance. I enjoyed the discussions of mental health, which is pretty rare in holiday reads, and Paige’s character transforms throughout the book. One of my favourite parts is how both of her Christmas vacation options are depicted. This is such a cute holiday read that fans of Hallmark movies will love. Continue reading
Geekerella by Ashley Poston is a fresh retelling of Cinderella that incorporates fan culture and a relationship that blossoms via text. I loved how the author outlines what Starfield means to different characters, and the main character is strong and likeable. I would definitely recommend this one, especially to those who enjoy fairy tale retellings. Continue reading
Far From Normal by Becky Wallace is a book that combines two of my interests: sports and marketing. The premise is original as the main character assists a soccer player in repairing his public image, and the main characters are both charming. This is a short and sweet read that is a perfect pick-me-up. Continue reading
Charming as a Verb by Ben Philippe is a book I wish had been released when I was in my senior year of high school. Filled with both entertaining mishaps and vulnerability, this is a realistic depiction of the end of high school. Henri is a relatable main character who makes mistakes, and the descriptions of the New York/Montreal backdrop makes the book even more special. I would definitely recommend this one. Continue reading
