Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs is so unique and the pictures throughout the book make it so much more interesting to read. Ransom Riggs has a descriptive and mysterious writing style that really drew me in. Everything about this five star book was just so enjoyable.

This YA magic book has such an original concept! Basically, a boy finds and old children’s home filled with people who each have strange abilities. For example, one of them is invisible and another has super strength. I loved getting to know each of the children and reading about Jacob’s encounters with each of them. What I enjoyed even more was the fact that there’s a bit of time travel incorporated into the book. I don’t want to say too much about it because of spoilers, but the way time travel is included is so different than any other time travel book I’ve read.
❀ Images add an Interesting Element
I really enjoyed the old photos scattered throughout the book. It was really interesting to be able to read a scene and then turn the page to see an image of a character, for instance. The pictures really helped me visualize the story more and I felt like I had a better understanding of what was going on. I loved the idea of including images so much and I wish there was more of it, honestly.

Ransom Riggs has such an amazing writing style. He writes so descriptively and as a reader, I actually became immersed in the story. What I found interesting about the way Ransom Riggs writes is the fact that he doesn’t reveal too much and waits to share important details until a specific moment where there is a massive plot twist. I am not a fan of info dump and I liked the way this book is more mysterious as the information comes gradually.

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs is one of the most original fantasy books out there. I really enjoyed the old photos included in the book and Ransom Riggs’s descriptive and mysterious writing style. I really enjoyed this YA book series, and I would definitely recommend it for a teen book club pick. It is a perfect fall read that fans of Harry Potter will enjoy.
