Seventeen-year-old Audrey Rose Wadsworth was born a lord's daughter, with a life of wealth and privilege stretched out before her. But between the social teas and silk dress fittings, she leads a forbidden secret life.
Against her stern father's wishes and society's expectations, Audrey often slips away to her uncle's laboratory to study the gruesome practice of forensic medicine. The story's shocking twists and turns, augmented with real, sinister period photos, will make this dazzling, #1 New York Times bestselling debut from author Kerri Maniscalco impossible to forget.
Review: Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco
This historical fiction book tells the story of a girl who is determined to solve the Jack the Ripper murders, contrary to society’s expectations for her. I found the forensic science aspects so interesting, and I loved reading about the historical techniques used to try and catch a killer. No aspect of the investigation process is omitted, but I didn’t find the plot to be too slow because of this. Ultimately, this story is fresh and will keep the reader on the edge of their seat as Audrey Rose and Thomas get closer and closer to solving the case.
❀ Incredible Main Character
Audrey Rose is such an incredible main character, and I couldn’t get enough of her. She isn’t afraid to defy her father and go against her role in society, and she is so brave. I adored how she is the kind of girl who enjoys both wearing a dress and investigating murders, although she does comment on this a bit too much throughout the book. Audrey Rose has an intelligent voice, and she is just the kind of character I wanted to root for.
❀ Combines Fact and Fiction
I really enjoyed the way this book is written, and it enhances the reading experience. It combines fact with fiction in a way that is still historically accurate, and it is descriptive down to the last gory detail. I’m not normally a fan of horror or gore, but I didn’t find it to be overwhelming in this case. I found the story to be believable, and I am looking forward to reading other works by Kerri Maniscalco.
❀ A thrilling story
Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco is a thrilling action-packed take on the Jack the Ripper murders. I enjoyed the gripping plot and the feminist main character. I am so excited to continue with this YA book series and see what’s in store for Audrey Rose and Thomas!
