Welcome to this week’s edition of Wishlist Wednesday! Today I am featuring Four Dead Queens by Astrid Scholte. I am so intrigued by both the gorgeous cover and interesting concept of this fantasy novel.
Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Wishful Endings, to spotlight and discuss the books we’re excited about and have yet to read. It is a spin-off of the original meme, Waiting on Wednesday that was formerly hosted by Breaking the Spine.
THIS WEEK’S BOOK:

Author: Astrid Scholte
Publisher: G.P. Putnam's Sons Books for Young Readers
Publication Date: February 26, 2019

A divided nation. Four Queens. A ruthless pickpocket. A noble messenger. And the murders that unite them.
Get in quick, get out quicker. These are the words Keralie Corrington lives by as the preeminent dipper in the Concord, the central area uniting the four quadrants of Quadara. She steals under the guidance of her mentor Mackiel, who runs a black market selling their bounty to buyers desperate for what they can’t get in their own quarter. For in the nation of Quadara, each quarter is strictly divided from the other. Four queens rule together, one from each region:
Toria: the intellectual quarter that values education and ambition
Ludia: the pleasure quarter that values celebration, passion, and entertainment
Archia: the agricultural quarter that values simplicity and nature
Eonia: the futurist quarter that values technology, stoicism and harmonious communityWhen Keralie intercepts a comm disk coming from the House of Concord, what seems like a standard job goes horribly wrong. Upon watching the comm disks, Keralie sees all four queens murdered in four brutal ways. Hoping that discovering the intended recipient will reveal the culprit – information that is bound to be valuable bartering material with the palace – Keralie teams up with Varin Bollt, the Eonist messenger she stole from, to complete Varin’s original job and see where it takes them.

Thoughts
I was surprised to discover that this book isn’t the start of a series. It seems like there is going to be a lot of story to read with four different view points, and the complex world in this one. I have heard that it is reminiscent of the Divergent series, so if you are a fan of this style of novel, this may be one for you.
This seems to be the trend lately. Books about multiple queens getting their crowns. I like it. Good pick and it’s on my TBR list already.
Mary my CWW!
I like it, too! 🙂

I am living the sound of this one. All these great female characters… I am adding this to my wish list. I hope you love this one.
Yes! I love books that have lots of female characters as well. 🙂
I’m always down to try a real-life standalone. They’re like an endangered species. lol

Same! I love getting instalments of favourite series, but it is also nice when things are all just wrapped up in one novel. 🙂
I actually like that it’s not part of a series! I have too many series going on right now! And I love that cover!
I totally agree with you! 🙂
Yes, even though it looks “coincidentally” similar to Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake. Honestly looks like a knock-off of that series.
Thanks for showing this little jewel!!
I just received an ARC to review of this exciting book. Will definitely read before publication.
I am so jealous! I hope that you enjoy it. 🙂
Why haven’t I heard of this book? It sounds so amazing! Definitely going into my TBR! Thanks for sharing! 🙂

Looks fun and I love that cover. It kinda sounds too like there is some technology mixed in with the fantasy world elements?

I wasn’t the biggest fan of Divergent, but this sounds SO good. It actually sounds like Three Dark Crowns more? We shall see!
