Book Review: Scream by Stacey R. Campbell

Scream by Stacey R. Campbell is my favourite book in the Lakeview Series. It is fast-paced and full of suspense! Stacey R. Campbell has created another incredible mystery novel that will make your head spin with its action, feisty main character and boarding school setting.

❀ Quick Read

Scream is a very quick book to read. This book has potential murderers working inside the main character, Halle’s, school. The main characters work together to solve the mystery. Like the other books in the series, Scream is full of suspense and definitely keeps readers guessing what will happen next. Since these books are companions, readers can really jump into any of the books without feeling lost. At the end of each story, all of the loose ends are tied up nicely. There is no need to know more, but readers will be hoping for another book to keep the series going.

❀ Relatable Characters

Characters that are relatable are so important to the YA genre. Halle, the main character in the Lakeview Series is an undeniably charismatic character. Campbell has created a brave and independent female protagonist that is both believable and a role model. Halle isn’t afraid to speak her mind and has the right amount of humour to go along with it. She is a character that is easy to fall in love with.

❀ Boarding School Setting

The setting of Scream and the other books in the series is a boarding school. What really makes these books interesting is how Stacey R Campbell has created the setting from her own boarding school experiences. The descriptions and scenes are so well written that readers can easily envision the hallways and rooms as the mystery unfolds. This adds such an amazing element to the story.

❀ Mysterious Plot

Scream by Stacey R. Campbell is a book that can be devoured all at once with its mysterious plot, well developed characters and dreamy setting. Perfect for a day of reading at the beach. If you enjoy books like the Anna and the French Kiss series by Stephanie Perkins, add the Lakeview series to your beach bag.

Stacey R. Campbell lives in the Washington State with her husband and three daughters. She is a graduate of the University of Washington and a dyslexic writer that believes there is no such thing as a bad reader. She is the author of the young adult novels Hush and Whisper and the highly acclaimed middle grade swashbuckling pirate book ARRGH!
When not at her desk writing she can be found hiking, sailing, or skiing. She enjoys chocolate in any shape or size, too many cups of coffee and laughing (often too loudly as her daughters say) with her friends and family.
