Book Beginnings is a book meme hosted by Rose City Reader where participants share the first sentence (or so) of the book, along with initial thoughts about the sentence, impressions of the book, or anything else the opener inspires.
The Friday 56 is hosted by Freda’s Voice, and the rules are quite simple: Grab a book, any book, and turn to page 56 or 56% in your e-reader. Find any non-spoilery sentence(s) and post.
This week’s book: Noteworthy by Riley Redgate

Author: Riley Redgate
Publisher: Amulet Books
Publication Date: May 2, 2017

It’s the start of Jordan Sun’s junior year at the Kensington-Blaine Boarding School for the Performing Arts. Unfortunately, she’s an Alto 2, which—in the musical theatre world—is sort of like being a vulture in the wild: She has a spot in the ecosystem, but nobody’s falling over themselves to express their appreciation. So it’s no surprise when she gets shut out of the fall musical for the third year straight.
Then the school gets a mass email: A spot has opened up in the Sharpshooters, Kensington’s elite a cappella octet. Worshiped ... revered ... all male. Desperate to prove herself, Jordan auditions in her most convincing drag, and it turns out that Jordan Sun, Tenor 1, is exactly what the Sharps are looking for.

Thoughts
Does this book not sound like a fun, girl power kind of story? I have just started listening to this one on Audible and it is such a great listen so far. The whole concept of the boarding school and singing is something that I really enjoy and I can’t wait to know more about what happens next!
Book Beginning
Monday morning was the worst time to have an existential crisis. I decided on a Monday morning while having an existential crisis.
Friday 56
My parents tracked my school performance like baseball nuts tracked the World Series. I never told people about it.
Sounds like a competitive read!

I liked this one a lot. Jordan was a great character and the whole gender identity thing was intriguing. I’m reading The Danger Gang and the Pirates of Borneo! by Stephen Bramucci – a fun middle grade adventure. Happy reading!
I am so glad to hear that you enjoyed it! I think that it is going to be one of my favourites! 🙂
Sounds like a good read! Happy weekend!
I’ve heard a lot of great things about Noteworthy. I might give this one as a try as an audiobook since you said you’re enjoying it!
Thanks for sharing!

I hope that you enjoy it if you do give it a try! 🙂
This sounds like a fantastic story. I haven’t heard of it until now, so, thanks for mentioning it. 🙂
I really like the premise of this book. And sounds like this should be a movie or something. 😀
You are so right! I would love to see that happen. 🙂
That has to be one of the best opening lines I have ever read! Hope the rest of the book has that kind of humor!
Right?! It pretty much sums up my Monday morning! lol 🙂
Tell me about it! I’ve been there!
Yes, please! This reminds me of the singing, book version of She’s the Man, which I loved!
I haven’t read this yet but I’ve heard great things about it! I hope you enjoy rest of the book! 🙂
This is one of my favourite reads this year. Can’t wait to read your review.
This book seems so cool why haven’t I heard of it before?! And both of the sentences you took are great ahahah
I actually went to boarding school for most of my childhood and adolescent years (grade 3-12). I often wonder if I would put my own kids in boarding school too. I had a good experience, but not every kid in my school did, so I can understand that can be difficult for some. Interestingly I just wrote a post about my experience in boarding school, so this is fresh on my mind. 🙂
