I asked Sandy Hall to give us a list of her favorite TV shows about proms. This is a perfect list and I am adding them all to Netflix ASAP! Here is what she has to say:

First of all, I love this question, so as soon as I saw it, my brain went into overdrive coming up with favorite television prom episodes. I’ve narrowed the list down to five episodes and one honorary mention but it was TOUGH! Prom episodes of any show tend to be awesome, at least in my personal opinion.

Here’s my list, in no particular order.

1. Veronica Mars- “Look Who’s Stalking” Season 2, episode 22.

A classic episode if there ever was one. Every Veronica Mars fan I knew was desperate for a rekindling of love between Veronica and Logan and the pair finally had a moment in this episode. It also introduced me to one of my favorite songs of all time, I Hear the Bells by Mike Daughty. Just hearing that song will bring me right back to the Alterna-prom.

2. Buffy the Vampire Slayer- “The Prom” Season 3, episode 20.

Just when Buffy thought her classmates didn’t care about her, or notice all the hard work she did to save them from evil on a weekly basis, they decided to make up an award just for her. And boy did she deserve it. Also, I can’t say enough about how amazing it was when Angel showed up for a slow dance.

3. Glee- “Prom Queen” Season 2, episode 20 & “Promasaurus” Season 3, episode 19.

I know this is cheating, but I can not and will not choose between these two episodes. I love them both equally. The music selections were strong, there was tons of lighthearted fun, and my favorite character of all time, Blaine Anderson, was a precious cupcake in both. Those are the only elements I really need from an episode of Glee.

4. Parks and Recreation- “Prom” Season 6, episode 18

Because no list of favorite TV shows is ever complete without an episode of Parks and Rec. And the amazing thing about Parks and Rec is that even though it’s a show about people long out high school, they still managed to have a prom episode. It was fun to see how the adults of the Parks department reacted to the prom, particularly April and Andy. They were fantastic in this episode, as always.

Honorary Mention:

One Day at a Time (the Netflix reboot) “Homecoming” season 2, episode 11

So this isn’t a prom episode, but it’s a dance episode for sure, and I just loved every minute of it, so I needed to add it to the list.
