Welcome to this week’s edition of Friday Reads! Today I am sharing a few quotes from Bridge of Clay by Markus Zusak. The Book Thief is one of my favourite all-time books, so I am really excited about this new novel.
Book Beginnings is a book meme hosted by Rose City Reader where participants share quotes (the first sentence, or so) of the book, along with initial thoughts about the sentence, impressions of the book, or anything else the opener inspires.
The Friday 56 is hosted by Freda’s Voice, and the rules are quite simple: Grab a book, any book, and turn to page 56 or 56% in your e-reader. Find any non-spoilery sentence(s) and post.
THIS WEEK’S BOOK:

Author: Markus Zusak
Publisher: Doubleday Canada
Publication Date: October 9, 2018

Let me tell you about our brother.
The fourth Dunbar boy named Clay.
Everything happened to him.
We were all of us changed through him.The Dunbar boys bring each other up in a house run by their own rules. A family of ramshackle tragedy - their mother is dead, their father has fled - they love and fight, and learn to reckon with the adult world.
It is Clay, the quiet one, who will build a bridge; for his family, for his past, for his sins. He builds a bridge to transcend humanness. To survive.
A miracle and nothing less.
Markus Zusak makes his long-awaited return with a profoundly heartfelt and inventive novel about a family held together by stories, and a young life caught in the current: a boy in search of greatness, as a cure for a painful past.

BOOK BEGINNING
In the beginning, there was one murderer, one mule, and one boy, but this isn’t the beginning, it’s before it, it’s me, and I’m Matthew, and here I am, in the kitchen, in the night- the old river mouth of light- and I’m punching and punching away. The house is quiet around me.
FRIDAY 56
A silent declaration was made, and years of stable suffering was intolerable for another second; the chain was cracked, then broken.
THOUGHTS
So far, I am really enjoying Bridge of Clay. The book is one that takes requires full attention while you are reading, as so much is happening. I find that every time I set it down, I have to do a quick look back to remind myself what has happened so far.
My copy of this book finally showed up! I probably won’t have time to read it until December, but I’m excited.

I hope that you love it! 🙂
It has been so long wince The Book Thief and I Am the Messenger. I hope that this book lives up to the hype. This week I’m listening to Soul of America
I am hoping it will as well. Fingers crossed! 🙂
I’m glad you are enjoying this book. I can’t get into his writing. This week I’m featuring Leverage in Death by J. D. Robb – the latest in the series. Happy reading!
It is something that takes quite a bit of effort to get into. 😉
This sounds fantastic!! Happy weekend!

Right?! I am in awe of the writing. 🙂
I will absolutely be reading this story, without a doubt. I am humbly excited for this book
I hope that we both love it! 🙂
This book looks so cool, I also loved the Book Thief so maybe sometime in the future I’ll pick this one up!
It is such a cool concept! 🙂
I’m glad you’re enjoying this one so far! I have not read it, nor The Book Thief, but it sure sounds full of wonderful writing and dense as hell – imagine having to backtrack every time you pick up the book! I would either love that or hate it and settle the book down once and for all hahaha (but that’s just my impatient self talking)
Yeah… I have put it on hold for a time that I can spend more time on it. I love it, but it is very intense. 😉
Sounds like a good one. I did like The Book Thief. That was a great book.
So far I am enjoying it just as much as The Book Thief. 🙂
This one is recommened by nearly every bloggers right now so I am happy to see it seems to live to the hype! Happy reading 😉
It is one that I am happy to recommend! 🙂
I can’t wair to try this for myself. Thanks for sharing!
