Book Beginnings is a book meme hosted by Rose City Reader where participants share the first sentence (or so) of the book, along with initial thoughts about the sentence, impressions of the book, or anything else the opener inspires.
The Friday 56 is hosted by Freda’s Voice, and the rules are quite simple: Grab a book, any book, and turn to page 56 or 56% in your e-reader. Find any non-spoilery sentence(s) and post.
This week’s book: The Lucky Ones by Tiffany Reisz

Author: Tiffany Reisz
Publisher: MIRA
Publication Date: February 13, 2018

They called themselves “the lucky ones.”
They were seven children either orphaned or abandoned by their parents and chosen by legendary philanthropist and brain surgeon Dr. Vincent Capello to live in The Dragon, his almost magical beach house on the Oregon Coast. Allison was the youngest of the lucky ones living an idyllic life with her newfound family…until the night she almost died, and was then whisked away from the house and her adopted family forever.
Now, thirteen years later, Allison receives a letter from Roland, Dr. Capello’s oldest son, warning her that their father is ill and in his final days. Allison determines she must go home again and confront the ghosts of her past. She's determined to find out what really happened that fateful night--was it an accident or, as she's always suspected, did one of her beloved family members try to kill her?
But digging into the past can reveal horrific truths, and when Allison pieces together the story of her life, she'll learns the terrible secret at the heart of the family she once loved but never really knew.
A vivid and suspenseful tale of family, grief, love—and the dark secrets that bind everything together—Tiffany Reisz’s latest is enthralling to the final page.

Thoughts
I have just started this one and I am already really enjoy it. I love a great thriller and this book definitely seems to have all of the right elements for a page-turner, for sure. I haven’t read any other of Reisz’s novels before and I am going to have to check out some of her other works after reading The Lucky Ones.
Book Beginning:
Louisville, Kentucky, 2015
All Allison wanted was for this conversation to be over. That and she hoped the heavy grey clouds would part and the sun would appear. It could go either way today- sun or rain.
Friday 56:
“This is it?” Deacon asked. “This is your big talent? You showing off you can do a push-up with a man sitting on your back? I could do that, please don’t make me prove it.”
This is a great premise! I think such a thriller would inspire me to read more books of the genre in the future seeing as it seems to have so many other interesting elements to it.
Love the quotes too! 🙂
I am reading Collision Point by Lora Leigh ARC from Netgalley. I have to stop myself sometimes – there are so many errors…But, that is because they are not finished with it yet.
I love thrillers especially YA thrillers. Glad you are enjoying this one. I put it on my TBR pile. Have a great weekend!

ARCs do have their drawbacks sometimes, don’t they? I hope that you enjoy it when you have a chance to read it. 🙂
Sounds intriguing. The blurb makes me curious but the excerpts are sort of tame. This week I have A Cold Day in Hell by Lissa Marie Redmond. Happy reading!
You’re right! It will be interesting to see if the book has that tame element throughout. 😉
