Welcome to this week’s edition of Friday Reads! Today I am sharing a few quotes from Obsidio by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman. This is the third book in The Illuminae Files and I am just about to start reading it.
Book Beginnings is a book meme hosted by Rose City Reader where participants share quotes (the first sentence, or so) of the book, along with initial thoughts about the sentence, impressions of the book, or anything else the opener inspires.
The Friday 56 is hosted by Freda’s Voice, and the rules are quite simple: Grab a book, any book, and turn to page 56 or 56% in your e-reader. Find any non-spoilery sentence(s) and post.
THIS WEEK’S BOOK: Obsidio by Jay Kristoff & Amie Kaufman

Author: Jay Kristoff, Amie Kaufman
Publisher: Knopf Books for Young Readers
Publication Date: March 13, 2018

Kady, Ezra, Hanna, and Nik narrowly escaped with their lives from the attacks on Heimdall station and now find themselves crammed with 2,000 refugees on the container ship, Mao. With the jump station destroyed and their resources scarce, the only option is to return to Kerenza--but who knows what they'll find seven months after the invasion?
Meanwhile, Kady's cousin, Asha, survived the initial BeiTech assault and has joined Kerenza's ragtag underground resistance. When Rhys--an old flame from Asha's past--reappears on Kerenza, the two find themselves on opposite sides of the conflict. With time running out, a final battle will be waged on land and in space, heros will fall, and hearts will be broken.

THOUGHTS
I am enjoying The Illuminae Files series so much! The concept is incredible and the massive 600-700 page books really do seem to fly by. It is a series that will immerse you in all of its amazing characters and fascinating plot.
BOOK BEGINNING
Crowhurst, G: Perhaps we should get the proceedings underway? Miss. Donnelly, is the video feed operating at your end?
Donnelly, H: We can see you Mr. Crowhurst.
Crowhurst, G: Thank you for making yourself available to us today. Please state your name and occupation for the record.
Donnelly, H: Hanna Alimah Donnelly. I don’t really have an occupation. My father was Charles Donnelly, commander of jump station Heimdall.
FRIDAY 56
SHE RELEASED HIM IN HER RUSH
TO HER FATHER’S SIDE, YOU SEE.
BUT IN HER RIGHT HAND, PRESSED AGAINST HER FATHER’S RIBS
AS SHE HUGS HIM,
SHE STILL HOLDS ME.
Nice. I haven’t read this series yet. I have the first book. I just need to get to it

It has taken me a while to pick up these books myself. 🙂
I’m not ready for this one yet. I have to psych myself up to tackle Gemina. I have issues with books written in non-linear narrative. It is sitting on my TBR mountain though. This week I am spotlighting The Broken Girls by Simone St. James. Happy reading!
It does take a bit of getting used to! 🙂
Not sure if I’d get into this one, but hope you love it! Happy weekend!

Although the premise of this book (and series) sounds fascinating, it probably isn’t something I’d choose to read. Sounds like you’re loving it, though. Enjoy!
My Friday post features Before We Were Yours.
I love when the pages fly by. I get intimidated with the larger books lately tho. I have to check this one out.

I am exactly the same way. I have had this series scheduled in my review calendar for months. It is the only way that I can fit these big ones in. 🙂
I need to hurry up and read Gemina so I can read this one, too.
I hope that you enjoy it! 🙂
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am thinking I really need to read this one and soon!
AHHHH OBSIDIO!! I want my copy so badly but it’s still not dispatched from the book depository because they had stocking issues with the paperback. I’m absolutely dying… but loved these teasers. I know I will devour the book once I finally receive it. ♥

Oh no! My copy arrived early and I was kicking myself for not having finished Gemina before it showed up. I hope that your copy arrives soon. 🙂
I recently started Obsidio and so far, I’m loving it. Hope you enjoy it too! 🙂
I LOVE it so far! I hope that you do, too. 🙂
I haven’t heard of this one before, it sounds intriguing! Enjoy your read and have a great weekend 🙂

I just finished Gemina last night and can’t wait to get my hands on Obsidio. I was hesitant to read the series because of the format, but it has quickly become one of my favorites 🙂

The format does take some getting used to, but once it does it becomes amazing to read! 🙂
