Healthy, Quick & Easy College Cookbook by Dana Angelo White is a book of recipes for those with limited experience in the kitchen. There is a great reference guide at the beginning that is quite useful, but much of the book involves basic recipes and techniques. The Silence Between Us by Alison Gervais is an unforgettable read spotlighting Deaf culture. There are so few books out there with Deaf main characters, so I was happy to see the confident and witty protagonist in this one. This book also respects the syntax of ASL as the author narrates Maya’s signs, and the many nuanced discussions about current debates in the Deaf community make it a must-read. Continue reading

Faking Reality by Sara Fujimura is a feel-good story following the daughter of HGTV stars. With an extravagant Sweet 16 party and a main character who is secretly in love with her best friend, this one contains plenty of drama. Instructions for Dancing by Nicola Yoon is the ballroom dance book I have been waiting for. With descriptions of dance and a little magical realism, this is a unique read with a lot of heart. The main character is also well-developed, and the philosophical questions throughout the story make for a thought-provoking read. Fans of Nicola Yoon will not be disappointed with this latest work.
