Wishlist Wednesday: We Set the Dark on Fire

Wishlist Wednesday on The Candid Cover

Welcome to this week’s edition of Wishlist Wednesday! Today I am featuring We Set the Dark on Fire by Tehlor Kay Mejia. It has been a while since I have read a dystopian and I think that this one sounds like the one that might pull me back into the genre.

Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by  Wishful Endings, to spotlight and discuss the books we’re excited about and have yet to read. It is a spin-off of the original meme, Waiting on Wednesday that was formerly hosted by Breaking the Spine.

THIS WEEK’S BOOK:

Wishlist Wednesday: We Set the Dark on FireTitle: We Set the Dark on Fire
Author: Tehlor Kay Mejia
Publisher: Katherine Tegen Books
Publication Date: February 26, 2019

Summary (from Goodreads):

At the Medio School for Girls, distinguished young women are trained for one of two roles in their polarized society. Depending on her specialization, a graduate will one day run a husband’s household or raise his children. Both paths promise a life of comfort and luxury, far from the frequent political uprisings of the lower class.

Daniela Vargas is the school’s top student, but her pedigree is a lie. She must keep the truth hidden or be sent back to the fringes of society.

And school couldn’t prepare her for the difficult choices she must make after graduation, especially when she is asked to spy for a resistance group desperately fighting to bring equality to Medio.

Will Dani cling to the privilege her parents fought to win for her, or will she give up everything she’s strived for in pursuit of a free Medio—and a chance at a forbidden love?

Thoughts

I am immediately drawn into this book because of the forbidden love trope. The concept is so intriguing and the cover is just so pretty. It also sounds a bit like The Handmaid’s Tale with its polarized society. Looking forward to finding out more about this one in the spring!

The cover had me at first sight. IT is awesome. Definitely one of my favorite types of artwork. And the story itself sounds pretty good. I am definitely interested!
