Review: One Day in December by Josie Silver
Although the title might lead one to believe that the book is about one day in December, it actually takes place over the span of a few years. Silver uses the chance encounter to set the stage for the novel and then adds quite a few layers of character development that allows the characters to change and grow. I really enjoyed reading about Laurie and her struggles with her career. Her character is determined and head strong, which I found to be an engaging quality.
❀ Amazing Female Friendship
At first, I was worried about a love triangle, but it wasn’t like that at all. Because Laurie is one of those types of people who picks up the pieces and moves forward, so does the plot. The amazing friendship between Laurie and Sarah becomes the focus and it is so wonderful to read a story about women who have each other’s backs. This was my favourite aspect of the book by far.
❀ An Enduring Love
Once the book comes full circle, the drama goes full tilt. The ending is something that you might find straight out of a movie like An Affair to Remember. The number of times that Laurie and Jack are close to finding each other and then don’t just gives me a Cary Grant/Deborah Kerr vibe. The message here is: love is something that will endure whatever is thrown at it.

One Day in December by Josie Silver is perfect f you are a fan of melodrama and love stories. The characters are well-developed, and the friendship between the two women is admirable. You will want to stock up on some tissues for the ending, trust me on that one!

I thought about trying to get this one from First to Read, then I wasn’t sure if it would be too drama-filled for me or not. It sounds cute though, yay for no love triangle!

I agree! It’s not often enough that women are seen supporting one another in novels.
I used to dislike books that took place over the span of a few years but in the last year or two I’ve come to really enjoy books like that. Especially when it sounds so romantic like this story.
If you are in need of a romantic novel, this one will definitely fit the bill. 🙂

The first thing I thought when I got to the best friend part in the blurb was “Oh no! A love triangle!” It sounds like it wasn’t an issue, and that’s awesome! I think I might need to read this one!
I am not one of those hardcore love triangle haters, but to me, it didn’t seem as though it went in that direction. I would love to hear your thoughts on it if you do read it! 🙂

Now that I have some time to comment and not only like …I love your review! You state all the important facts about this book and I am happy to see it’s not a real love triangle and that she is able to move on. Love triangles are my pet peeves and few books can do them right with me not ending frustrated LOL Bring Down the Stars duet by Emma Scott was the most recent to win me over.

I loved this book! I formed quite an attachment being with these characters for 10 years. I was happy for them, I was sad for them, and the waiting for it to happen was tough, but LOVED IT!
