Books to Movies 2018

There are quite a few books becoming movies in 2018. It seems every time I turn around there is a new movie or TV show being announced that is going to be adapted from a book for the screen. Some of them have been optioned and are not even in production, but it is very exciting for book lovers who enjoy seeing their favourite stories brought to life. While there are a multitude of book to movie adaptations to look forward to this year, I have tried to narrow it down to the ones I feel the most eager to see.

Every Day: Releases February 23, 2018

I read Every Day by David Levithan quite a while ago and absolutely loved it! The concept is so unique and gripping. Just imagine having to start over every single day in a new body and someone else’s life. It is the type of book that definitely makes for a great movie.

A Wrinkle in Time: Releases March 9, 2018

It seems as though I have been hearing about this movie forever and now it is finally almost here! I can remember reading A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle when I was a kid and being mesmerized by the whole idea of time travel. The cast looks amazing and I think that it is bound to be an instant favourite.

Love, Simon: Releases March 16, 2018

If you haven’t had the chance to read Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli, now is the time! This was one of my favourite reads from 2015 and it is such a fantastic story about a gay teen struggling with coming out. It is a book that is both sensitive and witty. Don’t forget to sneak in some Oreos with you to the theatre because after watching this one, you will most definitely have a craving!

Rise: Series Premiere on NBC March 13, 2013

I actually just discovered this new series that is coming to cable TV this spring, and I became instantly excited about it. It is based on a true story entitled Drama High by Michael Sokolove, about a famous theatre producer who changes the lives of a struggling community through the theatre. I have it on my TBR and hope to read it before Rise starts up.

Ready Player One: Releases March 30, 2018

This is going to be one movie that is bound to be a blockbuster this year! I have had the audiobook, Ready Player One by Ernest Cline, all queued up on my phone ever since I read Charlene over at Bookish Whimsy’s review. There are so many layers to this one and I am thrilled to learn more about this book and movie that are inspired by Blade Runner.

Where’d You Go, Bernadette: Releases May 11, 2018

This is a book that is totally new to me, and when I read the synopsis, I knew that it will be one that is right up my alley. Where’d You Go, Bernadette sounds like a hilarious novel that explores agoraphobia and mother-daughter relationships. Cate Blanchette stars in this one, although there is no official trailer available at this time. This will be a perfect movie for the Mother’s Day weekend, for sure.

The Darkest Minds: Releases September 14, 2018

Yet another novel that I need to clear off of my TBR is Alexandra Bracken’s The Darkest Minds. This series has had such rave reviews and the idea of teens having superpowers has me wanting to know more. Maybe this will be the series that brings me back to enjoying dystopian again!

Boy Erased: Releases September 28, 2018

Although there is quite a wait before this movie comes out, I feel like I have been hearing about it for quite some time now. The casting looks absolutely amazing with Nicole Kidman, Russell Crowe, and Troye Sivan. Boy Erased is based on the memoir of Garrard Conley, a 19 year old who must endure and rise above, while struggling with his sexuality.

My husband and I are both excited about Ready Player One – I want to get to the book before we see the movie, and he thinks the trailer looks awesome!

I can’t WAIT for the Love, Simon movie, I’m sure it will be fantastic! I haven’t read Every Day just yet, but that trailer looks so good, I’ll have to read the book sometime 🙂
    Lovely post! 🙂

In the past few years I’ve stayed way from book to movie adaptions because the movie almost never exceeds the book. But I’m super excited for Every Day because it’s still one of my top favorite books. I’m also kinda worried for the movie because I just don’t want them to screw it up or anything. And Love, Simon! I think that’s going to be really great. The trailers I’ve seen have looked very promising.

Yes. Those movies don’t usually live up to the book. I will be the first to agree with you on that one! However, I am always sucked in and I have learned to try and appreciate a great adaptation even if it isn’t exactly like the original. I hope that you love Every Day and that it sticks close to the original. Fingers crossed! 🙂

I finished reading A Wrinkle In Time with my own kids, and now reading it with my students. We’re all so excited about the movie! Will have to check out some of these others.

A WRINKLE IN TIME! I have not read the book, but I will… after the movie, though. And The Darkest Minds.. What a great series to actually get to watch live, if they do it right.

  6. Lacey Waters says:

It was released a while ago but I’m really looking forward to seeing The Glass Castle. I’m still not sure if I’m going to see A Wrinkle in Time because I just don’t see how they could to it justice, although I thought the same about the Harry Potter books and ended up enjoying those!
