Love on the Lifts by Rachel Hawthorne is the perfect book for the winter. It is filled with drama and humour. Also, the setting is dreamlike and the hot chocolate/book store is something that I would love to visit in real life. I found the main character to be pretty clueless, but it wasn’t so bad that I had to put the book down.

Review: Love on the Lifts by Rachel Hawthorne
Love on the Lifts is the story of a winter vacation where things don’t go quite as planned. Kate is ready for some time with her friends, but when her brother and his friends show up unexpectedly, they have to learn to share. I enjoyed the simple drama throughout the book and the humour, such as list of rules made by the girls. This is a super quick read to curl up with this winter.
❀ Perfect Main Character
I enjoyed Kate as a character. She is reasonable and very logical. She understands that winter break won’t last long and that she shouldn’t get too attached to anyone in the town. Kate also assigns chores fairly, like the boys cleaning and the girls cooking. My one issue with Kate, however, is her cluelessness. She doesn’t notice what’s right in front of her. This isn’t just with her jerk of a crush, either. Kate is blind to what’s going on with her friends and someone who is clearly nice to her. I feel like this was too over the top and got annoying after a while.
❀ Dreamy Setting
The setting of this book is like a dream. Since it is winter break, the characters spend a lot of time outside building snowmen and skiing. My favourite location is Kate’s Aunt’s store. It is a book store, but also a hot chocolate store. That is actually goals, and I loved the descriptions of the store’s coziness and the hot chocolate making. It really got me into the spirit of Christmas.

Love on the Lifts by Rachel Hawthorne is the perfect book for winter break. I loved the light drama and the perfect wintry setting. I did have a few issues with the main character, but they weren’t too major, and I still enjoyed the book.

How awesome would it be to own a cozy bookstore/hot chocolate store? Cozy little couches, hidden nooks… my brain is running rampant right now! Back to the book! I love it when a Christmas story actually succeeds in giving you some Christmas spirit!

I often love books like this, especially in the winter with a snowy setting. For whatever reason, I have not been reading these sorts this holiday season though. I guess I am in a bit of a literary streak at the moment. I will be sure to mark this for when I feel in the mood.
I am so jealous! Although, I think that taking a break with the holiday reads has given me some desire to get back into some more thought-provoking books. 🙂
