Summary (from Goodreads):

Harper Anderson always believed she belonged somewhere more glamorous than her sleepy Northern California suburb. After all, how many water polo matches and lame parties in Bobby McKittrick's backyard can one girl take? That's why Harper is beyond ecstatic when she lands her dream internship as a dating blogger at the elite teen magazine Shift. Getting to spend the summer in New York City to live her dream of becoming a writer? Harper's totally in.

There's just one teeny, tiny, infinitesimal problem: Apart from some dance floor make-outs, Harper doesn't have a lot of - or, really, any - dating expertise. In fact, she might have sort of stolen her best friend's experiences as her own on her Shift application. But she can learn on the job...right?

From awkward run-ins with the cute neighborhood dog-walker to terrifying encounters with her crazed editor, from Brooklyn gallery openings to weekends in the Hamptons, Harper finds out what it takes to make it in the Big City--and as the writer of her own destiny.

Little Black Dresses, Little White Lies by Laura Stampler

Little Black Dresses, Little White Lies by Laura Stampler is a really surprising book. Reading about the life behind the scenes of a magazine is so intriguing. The book is also set in New York, which is an amazing backdrop. Also, the main character is filled with determination and is the ideal journalist. It is a perfect book for summer.

The concept of this book is very interesting and unique. This book tells the story of Harper, a girl who is selected as an intern for the biggest teen magazine in the country. It is really enjoyable to read about the behind-the-scenes aspects of working at the office and the stress to get as many clicks as possible on her articles. This book to be so fun and such a quick read for the summer.

❀ New York Setting

The New York setting in Little Black Dresses, Little White Lies is so much fun. Reading about the houses and parks was really interesting and definitely gives the reader a travel itch to visit New York City, What is especially enjoyable about this setting are the descriptions of the fashion. Fashion plays a big part in this novel, and watching Harper’s closet transform was really entertaining.

❀ Gutsy Main Character

Harper was a good main character overall. She has the guts to go all the way across the country to intern at a magazine and befriend some girls who are clearly more trendy than her. Harper is willing to do whatever it takes to be the best intern, and I admired her determination. Sure, there were times when Harper made some poor choices, but she always ended up redeeming herself, which I appreciated.

❀ A Unique Story

Little Black Dresses, Little White Lies by Laura Stampler is a unique story about an internship at a popular magazine in New York. The main character has a lot of determination and bravery. I would definitely recommend this book as it is such a cute read for summer.

“And now, because I was an idiot, because I wrote about something I know nothing about (and debatably betrayed my best friend, who can never find out), I’m going to have to turn into some sort of dating guru. In three days.”

I want to read this book since I saw it’s cover and read it’s synopsis. It’s kike everything about it screams that it’s a perfect read for me.
I saw it on Netgalley but didn’t even bother to request it bc my ratio is way too low at this point (but I’m working on it).
It is sooo good to see all those positive reviews about this one, your being one of them.

I’ve been really excited for this ever since I’ve heard it from a post you put up—a meme, was it? I think it’s Teaser Tuesday, I’m not really too sure, sorry! I haven’t read a book about someone who works for a magazine, and I do love some great fashion. This sounds like the perfect summer read. Great review!
