Book Review: The King SLayer

The King Slayer by Virginia Boecker is such a different book than The Witch Hunter. This sequel seems to be even more thrilling than the first with its epic battle scenes and the introduction of new powers. What is really intriguing is Elizabeth’s character, as she really transforms after losing her stigma.

❀ Intense and Unpredictable

The King Slayer has such an intense and unpredictable plot. I feel like there was actually more action in this book than the first one, and definitely more battle scenes. Honestly, the plot of this book was so mind-blowing for me. There are these major plot twists that just appear out of nowhere. No hints, no predictability, and I loved it. Of course, I expected nothing less of Virginia Boecker after the action in The Witch Hunter.

❀ Unique Use of Magic

One of my favourite things about The King Slayer is the unique use of magic. Just like The Witch Hunter, I very much enjoyed the use of magic without a wand. What was even better was the fact that the magic seemed to be more developed than the first book. New powers are introduced, like being able to shoot fire from your hands, and it really interested me. Fans of magic books should definitely check this one out.

❀ Elizabeth has Transformed

Elizabeth is a completely different character in The King Slayer. After losing her stigma, the one thing that protects her in battle, she has to learn how to fend for herself better. I appreciated her more in this book because she had to work harder in battle instead of letting her stigma heal her. Elizabeth’s transformation is so well done and it is really interesting watching her grow.

❀ Action-Packed

The King Slayer by Virginia Boecker is an action-packed fantasy novel with an original use of magic. The main character really transforms throughout the book and is very different from her character in the first book. This was the perfect ending to the duology and it truly left me satisfied.
