Summary (from Goodreads):

A girl takes over her twin sister's identity in this emotionally charged page-turner about the complicated bond between sisters.

Ella and Maddy Lawton are identical twins. Ella has spent her high school years living in popular Maddy's shadows, but she has never been envious of Maddy. In fact, she's chosen the quiet, safe confines of her sketchbook over the constant battle for attention that has defined Maddy's world.

When—after a heated argument—Maddy and Ella get into a tragic accident that leaves her sister dead, Ella wakes up in the hospital surrounded by loved ones who believe she is Maddy. Feeling responsible for Maddy's death and everyone's grief, Ella makes a split-second decision to pretend to be Maddy. Soon, Ella realizes that Maddy's life was full of secrets. Caught in a web of lies, Ella is faced with two options—confess her deception or live her sister's life.

Review: The Secrets We Keep by Trisha Leaver

The Secrets We Keep by Trisha Leaver will keep you up all night because it is one of those books that is hard to put down! It is also one of the best books I’ve read in 2015. It is captivating, clever and relatable. If you are in need of a change from the typical contemporary novel, then The Secrets We Keep is the book for you!

❀ Theme of Sisterhood

The Secrets We Keep explores the theme of sisterhood in an extremely engaging and unique manner. As a sister and twin myself, this book really had me thinking and comparing my own experiences. Trisha Leaver portrays the special bond that twins share and their distinct relationship quite accurately. The reader is left wondering if the circumstances surrounding Ella were his/her own, how these  scenes would unfold in real life.

❀ Aftermath of a Car Crash

To compare, The Secrets We Keep is very similar to another popular young adult novel, If I Stay by Gayle Forman. Both books have similar life events that the main character copes with. A car crash sends the families in these novels into an unexpected and life altering experience. The stories follow different paths, but start off on the same foot. If you enjoyed If I Stay, then chances are you will love The Secrets We Keep.

❀ Touching and Well-Written

The Secrets We Keep by Trisha Leaver is a touching, well written book with lots of secrecy. I was able to finish this book in just one sitting, because the plot is so intriguing and it goes by so quickly. I strongly suggest everyone, especially those with siblings, to add this book to your shelf!
