Summary (from Goodreads):

Fate and fortune. Power and passion. What does it take to be the queen of a kingdom when you’re only seventeen?

Maya is cursed. With a horoscope that promises a marriage of death and destruction, she has earned only the scorn and fear of her father’s kingdom. Content to follow more scholarly pursuits, her whole world is torn apart when her father, the Raja, arranges a wedding of political convenience to quell outside rebellions. Soon Maya becomes the queen of Akaran and wife of Amar. Neither roles are what she expected: As Akaran’s queen, she finds her voice and power. As Amar’s wife, she finds something else entirely: Compassion. Protection. Desire…

But Akaran has its own secrets—thousands of locked doors, gardens of glass, and a tree that bears memories instead of fruit. Soon, Maya suspects her life is in danger. Yet who, besides her husband, can she trust? With the fate of the human and Otherworldly realms hanging in the balance, Maya must unravel an ancient mystery that spans reincarnated lives to save those she loves the most…including herself.

Review: The Star-Touched Queen by Roshani Chokshi

The Star-Touched Queen has such a mind-blowing and original concept! It’s actually really hard to explain, but basically, it is about a girl who has a horoscope associated with death. I adored all the Indian mythology in the book! I have never read anything about Indian mythology before, and didn’t know much at the beginning of the book, but throughout the story, so much culture is incorporated. For example, there is this demon horse that eats human flesh. I found this to be really interesting, as I have never heard of it before. Trust me, this whole book will just blow your mind.

❀ Admirable Main Character

I really liked the main character in The Star-Touched Queen, Maya. She really transforms throughout the novel. At the beginning, she is shy and sensitive, but she becomes this brave warrior, in a way. Maya is really clever, and quite good at riddles, and she is determined to get what she wants. I really admired her and her attitude.

❀ Incredible Writing

The way that The Star-Touched Queen is written is just so incredible! There are these descriptions of indian culture that left me in awe, and I could picture the setting so easily in my mind. The fact that Roshani Chokshi has created a talking horse in a way that isn’t cheesy is also amazing. This book is honestly a work of art.

❀ An Original Story

The Star-Touched Queen by Roshani Chokshi is an original fantasy story based upon Indian mythology with an intelligent character who transforms. The writing is absolutely gorgeous and so descriptive. I would definitely recommend this book to everyone, especially fans of The Wrath and the Dawn.
