Save the Date by Morgan Matson is one of my favourite books this year. This book did not let me down with its wedding shenanigans, likeable main character, and quirky family. I would definitely recommend this one, especially to those looking for a fun summer read.

Charlie Grant’s older sister is getting married this weekend at their family home, and Charlie can’t wait—for the first time in years, all four of her older siblings will be under one roof. Charlie is desperate for one last perfect weekend before the house is sold and everything changes. The house will be filled with jokes and games and laughs again. Making decisions about things like what college to attend and reuniting with longstanding crush Jesse Foster—all that can wait. She wants to focus on making the weekend perfect.
The only problem? The weekend is shaping up to be an absolute disaster.
There’s the unexpected dog with a penchant for howling, house alarm that won’t stop going off, and a papergirl with a grudge.
There are the relatives who aren’t speaking, the (awful) girl her favorite brother brought home unannounced, and a missing tuxedo.
Not to mention the neighbor who seems to be bent on sabotage and a storm that is bent on drenching everything. The justice of the peace is missing. The band will only play covers. The guests are all crazy. And the wedding planner’s nephew is unexpectedly, distractingly…cute.
Over the course of three ridiculously chaotic days, Charlie will learn more than she ever expected about the family she thought she knew by heart. And she’ll realize that sometimes, trying to keep everything like it was in the past means missing out on the future.

❀ Classic Morgan Matson
It is safe to say that this book is classic Morgan Matson. It tells the story of a wedding gone wrong and contains the staple funny moments, quirky characters, and chaos present in her other books. I have always loved book about weddings, and it is interesting how this one twists the trope and outlines the many mishaps that occur as the wedding unfolds. This is a cute and entertaining story that is perfect for the summer.
❀ Captivating Main Character
I loved Charlie’s character so much! She is the youngest in her massive family, and she is going through a tough time in her life. I enjoyed how supportive she is of her sister on her wedding day, and how determined she is to give Linnie the perfect day. Overall, she is relatable and has a captivating voice.
❀ Family Theme
As is typical with Morgan Matson’s books, this one has a strong theme of family. I loved reading about Charlie’s many siblings and how close they are. By the end of the book, I really felt like I knew each character well, which is pretty surprising considering how many there are. Each family member has their own little quirks, and it really makes the story so much more believable.
❀ An Adorable Story
Save the Date by Morgan Matson is an adorable story about wedding catastrophes. I enjoyed the main character and all the members of her family. If you enjoyed Morgan Matson’s other books, this one will not disappoint.

This is my first Matson book, but definitely won’t be my last. I love big families (lots of siblings) and their funny, sweet, and sometimes sad, interactions. It makes me so happy to hear that “strong families” is a running theme in her other books.
