Making Waves is a weekly question feature created by the Waterwitch Babes (part of Susan Dennard’s Truthwitch Street Team).  Every Thursday, we’ll have a fun question that all are welcome to answer on their blog.  Anyone can join! The questions will be random and/or relate to the upcoming book Truthwitch by Susan Dennard.  A linky is provided so that everyone can link up their post and participate in the fun!

To participate, we do ask that you use the Making Waves banner in your post and link back to the Waterwitch Babes blog.

This week’s question:
Which Truthwitch character would you love to have as a best friend?

Before I share with you my answer for this week’s question, I would like to share a little bit about Susan Dennard and her upcoming novel, Truthwitch.

Dennard_Steampunk-1024x980Susan Dennard has come a long way from small-town Georgia. With a masters degree in marine biology, she got to travel the world—six out of seven continents, to be exact (she’ll get to Asia one of these days!)—before she settled down as a full-time novelist and writing instructor.
She is the author of the Something Strange and Deadly series (from HarperTeen) as well as the forthcoming Witchlands Series (Tor, 2015). When not writing, she can be found hiking with her dogs, exploring tidal pools, or earning bruises at the dojo.

You can learn more about Susan on her websiteblognewsletterTwitter, or Pinterest.

About Truthwitch by Susan Dennard:

21414439On a continent ruled by three empires, some are born with a “witchery”, a magical skill that sets them apart from others.

In the Witchlands, there are almost as many types of magic as there are ways to get in trouble—as two desperate young women know all too well.

Safiya is a Truthwitch, able to discern truth from lie. It’s a powerful magic that many would kill to have on their side, especially amongst the nobility to which Safi was born. So Safi must keep her gift hidden, lest she be used as a pawn in the struggle between empires.

Iseult, a Threadwitch, can see the invisible ties that bind and entangle the lives around her—but she cannot see the bonds that touch her own heart. Her unlikely friendship with Safi has taken her from life as an outcast into one of reckless adventure, where she is a cool, wary balance to Safi’s hotheaded impulsiveness.

Safi and Iseult just want to be free to live their own lives, but war is coming to the Witchlands. With the help of the cunning Prince Merik (a Windwitch and ship’s captain) and the hindrance of a Bloodwitch bent on revenge, the friends must fight emperors, princes, and mercenaries alike, who will stop at nothing to get their hands on a Truthwitch.

My response:

Without having read Truthwitch, it is difficult to give an accurate response to who I would want as a best friend from the book. However, Sooz has provided her fans with many images and details on her social media sites about the various characters in Truthwitch. From my research on her sites, it seems as though I relate the most to Safiya fon Hasstrel.

Safi sounds like the kind of friend you can have a rollicking good time with. First of all, she is from the noble class and lives in a blustery mountain castle. I can definitely see myself enjoying spending time with my BFF in this setting! Also, Safi’s personality sounds so spirited and she actually seems like a bit of a troublemaker with her card-cheating and sword-slashing. This is something that I can relate to in my wildest dreams. With her rare magical power, to be able to detect truth from lie, Safiya would be a friend that can make you stronger. You would never be able to lie to her!

Next week’s question:
What clan do you feel you belong to? Water, air, fire, earth, void, or aether?

I am going to have to think about next weeks for the week, but this weeks answer for me is definitely Safi AND Iseult! They are amazing, and I wouldn’t want one without the other. They aren’t whole unless they are together
