The Accident Season by Moïra Fowley-Doyle is a mysterious novel with such a unique and peculiar concept. I loved the combination of many genres, including one of my favourites, magical realism! Though I enjoyed these elements, I did find part of the story to be slow, therefore making this book sort of sluggish.

Summary (from Goodreads):

Every October Cara and her family become inexplicably and unavoidably accident-prone. Some years it's bad, like the season when her father died, and some years it's just a lot of cuts and scrapes. This accident season--when Cara, her ex-stepbrother, Sam, and her best friend, Bea, are 17--is going to be a bad one. But not for the reasons they think.

Cara is about to learn that not all the scars left by the accident season are physical: There's a long-hidden family secret underneath the bumps and bruises. This is the year Cara will finally fall desperately in love, when she'll start discovering the painful truth about the adults in her life, and when she'll uncover the dark origins of the accident season--whether she’s ready or not.

Review: The Accident Season by Moïra Fowley DOyle

❀ Fantastic Concept

I really loved the concept of this book. There is a family that becomes mysteriously accident-prone at the end of each month. I found this to be very unique and intriguing. There are so many layers in this book and the reader will be able to tell that it was planned very intricately.

❀ Magical Realism

Also, The Accident Season has a really interesting genre. It is sort of paranormal, with a mystery, a bit of horror, and magical realism.I love books with magical realism, and lately, I haven’t seen very many of them in the YA genre. Magical realism is basically when a realistic story has fantastical elements, which makes for a really epic story.

❀ The Accident Season is Slow-Paced

Despite the fact that the concept of the story is really unique, I found many bits of the book to be slow. The beginning really drew me in, and the ending totally blew my mind, but I found the middle section to be lacking. In my opinion, there wasn’t enough action and the plot seemed to really slow down. It took me a while to finish this book due to the missing excitement.

❀ Lacks Action

The Accident Season by Moïra Fowley-Doyle has a really unique concept and fits into many my favourite genres. However, I didn’t enjoy the lack of action and excitement in the middle section, which definitely brought down my rating. Fans of We Were Liars will definitely enjoy The Accident Season, as it  also contains a massive plot twist that will blow the reader’s mind.

I AM SO EXCITED ABOUT THIS ONE! Seriously, seriously stupendously excited. And I am a huge fan of the cover! I hate that there are some slow parts, but even so I cannot wait to read it, and hopefully love it!

Sad to hear it’s slow but thanks for telling us it’s like We Were Lairs with plot twist. I thought it was a unique book but a good review blog also didn’t like it either. I’m still going to read it since I love the ending of We Were Lairs.

I know I already commented, but sometimes it is nice to come back after you read something and see how things added up. I finished this one not too long ago, and I fell so completely in love with it. With every single aspect of it, from the amazing characters to the interesting and unique concept. I hate that you felt the middle part slowed down. Every time I love a book so much, I want all the people to love it too!
