Summary (from Goodreads):

If Skylar Evans were a typical Creek View girl, her future would involve a double-wide trailer, a baby on her hip, and the graveyard shift at Taco Bell. But after graduation, the only thing separating Skylar from art school is three months of summer…until Skylar’s mother loses her job, and Skylar realizes her dreams may be slipping out of reach.

Josh had a different escape route: the Marines. But after losing his leg in Afghanistan, he returns home, a shell of the cocksure boy he used to be.

What brings Skylar and Josh together is working at the Paradise—a quirky motel off California’s Highway 99. Despite their differences, their shared isolation turns into an unexpected friendship and, soon, something deeper.

Compelling and ultimately hopeful, this is a powerful examination of love, loss, and resilience.

❀ A Perfect Setting

There are so many great things about this book that I simply can’t express in words. The setting was perfect and it was described so well that I felt like I was with Skylar and Josh in the book. It was the perfect summer setting for a cold, dark winter day and boy is it cold and dark here in Canada.

❀ Interesting Cover

I really liked how the cover related to the setting, with the sign for the motel and the pool. I thought this was really interesting, because to me, it was kind of like I was a tourist about to visit the motel, standing in the parking lot looking at the sign. It just looks beautiful, in my opinion.

❀ A Haunting Story

I’ll Meet You There is one of the only YA books that I can think of and have read that incorporates a sensitive topic like the military and war. This is such a great example of this type of book, because it is fun and fresh, yet so sad and dark. It is unimaginable what it would be like having been a survivor of war and having to live with the haunting memories of the traumatic battlefield forever.  This book really teaches you to appreciate the little things in life and to be grateful for what you have.

❀ Thoughtful Acknowledgments

Finally, the author’s note and acknowledgements at the end were so sweet. I know, this isn’t really part of the actual story, but the fact that Heather Demetrios took the time to thank those who have served is so thoughtful! It shows that she cares about her country and is taking the time to think about how hard it must be, not only for those serving, but their families during their time away.

❀ Unique and Touching

I’ll Meet You There by Heather Demetrios is a very unique and touching book. If you haven’t read it yet, be sure to add it to your TBR right away! But, be sure to have a box of tissues nearby… You’ll need them.
