Summary (from Goodreads):

New York Times bestselling author Lauren Oliver delivers a gripping story about two sisters inexorably altered by a terrible accident.

Dara and Nick used to be inseparable, but that was before the accident that left Dara's beautiful face scarred and the two sisters totally estranged. When Dara vanishes on her birthday, Nick thinks Dara is just playing around. But another girl, nine-year-old Madeline Snow, has vanished, too, and Nick becomes increasingly convinced that the two disappearances are linked. Now Nick has to find her sister, before it's too late.

In this edgy and compelling novel, Lauren Oliver creates a world of intrigue, loss, and suspicion as two sisters search to find themselves, and each other.

"Alarming and uplifting, a rare psychological thriller that has a kind heart at its center. Read it with all the lights on." -- E. Lockhart, author of We Were Liars.

Review: Vanishing Girls by Lauren Oliver

❀ Incredible Setting

Vanishing Girls has such an incredible setting. It is set in a very beachy town and the main character works at an amusement park! I have never, in any YA book, ever, read about an amusement park. The amusement park, FantasyLand, is so run-down and dirty. The way Lauren Oliver has described it makes the scene so easy to picture. She has plotted every detail of the park, including the grimy windows and the Melinda the Mermaid shows. This is probably one of the components that made me enjoy the book so much!

❀ Beautiful Writing

The writing style of this book is so beautiful and mysterious, and I really enjoyed how there are sections of before and after “the event”. I don’t want to spoil anything, but every guess the reader will make will turn out to be false. This book has the same mysteriousness of We Were Liars by E. Lockhart. To understand how this plays out, you will have to read it for yourself!

❀ Mega-Mystery

I am a huge fan of the mystery genre and the story contains a mega-mystery of where nine-year-old Madeline Snow has disappeared to. As the reader continues, however, reading the mystery evolves into a massive search when the main character, Nick,’s sister, Dara, goes missing as well! This book makes for an exciting journey that will blow your mind!

❀ Mind-Blowing

Vanishing Girls by Lauren Oliver will appeal to most people, especially fans of the mystery/thriller genre. This book is truly incredible and will blow your mind!

Book Quotes: Vanishing Girls by Lauren Oliver

“Words scroll across the bottom of the screen: Cops Launch Massive Search for Missing Nine-Year-Old…”

“The only thing I was ever better at than Dara was being ordinary.”

Isn’t Lauren Oliver just incredible?! She absolutely can do no wrong.
I was so drawn to this book, that I read it in a day. That’s unusual for me as I am a slow reader, but I could not put this book down.
I love FanLand and wanted so badly to visit the beach with the lights!
I’m glad you enjoyed it too!
